chapter 10

Everyone tiptoed around him. Didn't speak but in only hushed voices.

"Troubled... mourning... friend... died... overdosed... cancer..."

He didn't care, anymore. He sat in his chair, staring at the wall.

"Isaac?" a voice said. "I've got a note from Becky for you." the note landed in his lap, and the messenger left, murmuring "...found at site... with pills..."

He numbly stared at the wet note, crinkled. Like in a dream, his unfolded the sheet, and fresh tears began to fall as he read:

Dear Ike,
When I knew you were coming back, I had to see you one last time. You've grown. I know you'll have more than your fair share of girls.

You know something? I'm not afraid of water anymore. I find it soothing. It's quite beautiful, in it's cold, hard way.

Be good, Hanson.

Love with all my heart and soul,

Red

PS. It sounds corny, but I'm watching... birthday boy.

'This is our place... remember that...'

"I remember, Red. I always, always will."

'I know... I know...'

Disaster can it make;
without regard it can take,
father, mother, brother, sister and mate,*
searing a soul with anguish and hurt.
Gently, it comes again,
washing over the hurt; washing over the pain,
it falls like tears; it falls like rain.
Don't mourn too long,
you just have be strong,
like those who went before.
Don't curse that which gives us life,
and takes at will those who you shall miss,
taken away, far, far away, by the
