Only After Forever

-CHAPTER 8-

We all sang. I wasn't used to singing with lower tones, but I eventually adjusted and my voice stood out against the guys'.

I closed my eyes and sang, getting into it. I came up to my solo bit, and I grew embarrassed. I was used to music to guide me, but I kept the beat in my head.

"Cut!" Zac yelled into my ear via the headset.

"Ow." I complained rubbing my head.

"Stop." he said and paused. "Okay, Taylor, you're too slow in the chorus. Speed it up a bit."

Taylor bit his tongue. "I noticed. Thank you Zachary."

Zac went on to Isaac. "Okay, Ike, I think you should go a half lower. You sound a bit too close to Taylor's range."

Ike nodded to his bossy brother.

"And Kris... at the end of the chorus, there's that note that's held for..." he paused again. "... for a long time. Can you do that as high as you can? Without going flat?"

I nodded and fiddled with my headset.

"Let's go again." Zac directed.

"A one, two three." Taylor counted and we joined our voices as we hummed.

Zac was right. Isaac going lower was better. As for my bit, I think I took the cake. I held my high note for as long as I could and it faded away into what should have been a repeat of the chorus, but ended up being a ringing silence.

I opened my eyes. "Oh shit. Was that flat?"

They laughed.

"No. That was flippin' good!" Zac reported.

Isaac nodded, amazed. "I thought you were alto."

I grinned. "Sorry, dear, but I'm second soprano. I can do high and low."

Taylor pulled his headset off and placed it on his stand. "Well, you've always sang low."

I nodded. "That's because Je... Jess was our real alto, but Jamie was louder than her, so I kind of balanced us out."
