-PROLOGUE-
I came out of the tunnel and into the bright. My eyes slowly adjusted and I sighed. Thank God that trip was done. It was nerve racking. Especially when we hit turbulance.
I shifted the carry on onto my shoulders and walked about a kilometre over to the carousel. I pushed into the crowd and waited for my bright green luggage to come around.
Someone shoved me in the back, and I stumbled, barely catching myself.
"Dammit. Sorry." a male voice said, and I turned around.
A middle aged man stood, wiping his hot face. "You okay?"
I nodded, feeling my tiny earrings sway. I guessed he was about 46. Around abouts.
He stuck his hand out. "Stanley Greyson."
I raised an eyebrow and his arm dropped.
I turned back to the carousel only to see my green suitcase wind away from me. "Oh, fucking hell." I cursed under my breath. This bumbling fool made me miss my case.
Someone came and stood beside me. Probably Mr. Bumbly. "Who are you?"
I rolled my eyes.
"Name?" he kept pestering.
I locked my eyes onto a small green pack coming around.
"You know, you look familiar. Do I know you from somewhere?" that same greasy tone sounded in my ear.
In normal cases, this would have been a cheesy pick up line, but with me and my history, it could well be true.
I grabbed the green pack and placed it at my feet. Not seeing my suitcase yet, I turned to the man. "Kristen Harmont." I told him, my accent quite distinct.
He grinned. "English?"
I blinked. "No, Aussie." Dumbass. I saw green out of the corner of my eye and reached over just in time to grab my suitcase making its second round.
"Ah." he nodded. As he saw that I was about to leave, he cleared his throat. "I'm not usually this forward, but would you care for a drink?"
I just curled my lip. He had to be kidding me. I looked at his left hand, and saw no ring. I lookd at his face, but he twitched nervously. Taking the ring off didn't fool me; there was still the faint mark of a wedding band on his finger. Amatuer. "You're wife wouldn't be happy to know you're picking up 25 year old women at airports, now would she?"
He turned pale.
I leaned over and shouldered my pack and grabbed my suitcase. I pulled my sunglasses down over my eyes and peered over the top. "I didn't think so. Bye." I said and shoved through the crowd again, heading for the taxi bay.
