Honoring Aunt Roselle Smith
On May 2, Sababa BBG is hosting a dinner and
a silent auction in honor of Aunt Roselle Smith.
Roselle Smith has been an active member of
San Antonio B'nai B'rith Youth Organization and the community for
many years.
She first became a part of San Antonio BBYO
in 1964, when she was asked to fill in as an advisor for Ben
Nathan BBG. Smith was an advisor for Ben Nathan BBG until the mid
80' s when she became the San Antonio council director.
Currently, she is a member of the B'nai B'rith advisory board.
Somewhere through the 35 years Smith has
dedicated to BBYO, she has gained the title of Aunt, and is known
only as Aunt Roselle to many of the current San Antonio BBYO
members
Jessica Chait and Leslie Potorff are
co-chairs of the event, with many of Sababa's members working
with them. Chait and Potorff are juniors attending Clark and
Churchill High Schools, respectively. Chait is currently
Sweetheart of Weiss AZA, Sababa's brother chapter, and Sababa's
past treasurer. Potorff is currently historian for Sababa.
Sababa BBG is currently the only B'nai
B'rith Girls chapter in San Antonio. It is a member of Small
Cities Council and Lonestar Region BBYO. \par The current N'siah
(president) of Sababa is Lauren Isaacs. Isaacs is also regional
secretary. Also in Sababa's membership is the current N'siah of
Small Cities Council, Lissa Feigenbaum. Feigenbaum is also the
second vice president of Sababa. Other Sababa board members
include Letal Greenberg and Diana Ree as co-first vice
presidents. Erica Weiss as vice president in charge of membership
and Madricha (past president). Elisheva Danan and Emily Kates as
vice presidents of Jewish Heritage. Sarah Donzis, Meghann Colton,
Kelly Kenigstein, and Adina Wise as secretaries. Jessica Gold as
treasurer, and Marianna Ravitsky as co-historian with Potorff.
Every Sababa member has an active part in this event.
The money that will be raised at the even is
to benefit Sababa's International Service Fund. ISF is an
International BBYO fund, which is used to fund many other
programs which BBYO offers. Part of the fund is donated to
numerous charities.
In the part ISF has been used to help with
the funding of such programs as the International Leadership
Training Conference, BBYO Israel Summer Institute and B'nai
B'rith Women's and Children's Home in the Hundean Hills. Also in
the past few years' ISF funds have been donated to the American
Cancer Society and many other organizations.
The dinner and auction will be held at the
Jewish Community Center. The silent auction will begin at 5:30
p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m. The dinner will be
kosher, with the food cooked under the supervision of Mr.
Saltzman.
Ingredients, materials, and auction items
have been donated by H.E.B., Albertsons, Pepsi, and numerous
other San Antonio businesses.
The Jewish community is invited to the
event, at $7.00 for adults and $4.00 for children.
The chapter is looking for past members of
BBYO who had Roselle Smith as your advisor to participate in a
"This is Your Life" program, reflecting her years as
chapter and city advisor.
