Yoshiki attends their live at Ichikawa Club GIO [in Tokyo] and gives GLAY a contract with EXTASY RECORDS on that same day. "We weren't informed beforehand. After the show, someone told us (that Yoshiki saw our show). My reaction to (his) offer...was complicated. I thought 'We're lucky,' but on the other hand, I thought 'It's troublesome.' I didn't like the hierarchy of the Visual-kei artists. I never had a hierarchical relationship with the band members, so I didn't want to be involved with them. But (Yoshiki's) personality was great. That's why we worked with him." (Jiro) |
1993.12 |
Glay start recording their indies album, [Hai to Daiyamondo]. |
1994.2.1 |
Megurorokumeikan-Glay perform a one-man live, which is SOLD OUT. "Their live performance was terrible at the time but a few great things were the quality of their songs and Teru's voice. That was all, but I felt some possibilities." (Hiro Inoguchi) |
1994.2~3 |
With Yoshiki as their producer, Glay records [RAIN] in ONE ON ONE RECORDING STUDIO in Los Angeles. "The project was postponed for a while because of the earthquake that hit L.A. Yoshiki was a very busy guy... That's the only reason why we went there." (Jiro)
"In L.A., I had a major argument with Jiro over how to cancel a concert." (Takuro) |
1994.4.25 |
Megurorokumeikan [2-day live], SOLD OUT. "It was the 2-day show after we got a contract with a major label but I couldn't sing well. To be honest, I was scared. I'm a vocalist. What's my use if I can't utter my voice well? The other three are getting better... I shouldn't be like this." (Teru) |

EXTASY period
JIRO: At first, EXTASY RECORDS found us. He was a very nice person. We thought we would try hard for him. The first time we met him, I was surprised and I felt frightened. "I am EXTASY RECORDS."
TAKURO: "I need to talk to you. Why don't we go to a coffee shop or someplace?"
(aciel's note: JIRO and TAKURO are quoting YOSHIKI's words. Although the members talk about YOSHIKI, they do not refer to him by name in this interview.)
JI: We were too nervous to drink coffee. However, he and the people at EXTASY RECORDS are somewhat clumsy. When he was putting milk into his coffee, all the milk spilled into his coffee cup by accident.
TERU: It was quite funny. He is EXTASY, EXTASY.
JI: That's right. At the time, we didn't know anything. We were easily nervous.
HISASHI: After all, we know he's a very nice person.
-After that, you had a recording in Los Angeles, right?
TA: Actually, our recording was delayed by 2 months because of the Los Angeles earthquake. If the earthquake hadn't occured, our recording would have been earlier. We stayed for about 2 weeks. My guitar recording took only 3 hours.
HI: It was very different from our recording style.
TA: We learned it was possible to record this way. This experience taught us a lot.
TE: On the other hand, the vocal recording was very difficult.
TA: At first we were ashamed to receive the receipt from the pub restaurant. We had to take the receipt with the name of "EXTASY". (Laughs) |
