How do You Dance to Ska?
Well, first of all, let me explain the basics. You skank to ska music. Skanking isn't the only way you can move to ska, but it's definitely the standard dance now. Skanking just goes along with ska music. If you don't like it...tough.
Skanking involves the angular pumping of legs and arms, with knees and elbows bent. Somebody once described this action as a "rhythmic herking and jerking." Here is one description I found courtesy of skaville.
1. Stand on your right foot. Put your arms in a jogging position. Make sure that your elbows are bent. Keep your fists clenched.
2. Drop your left foot down and raise your right foot. Pump your feet alternating in this manner. At the same time pump your arms as if you were jogging. Make sure your arms are in sync with your feet. If your arms are moving fast, so should your feet and vice versa.
3. Here's the tricky part. Again stand on 1 foot. Slide the foot you are standing on a few inches back without putting your other foot down (you kind of have to hop a little). Now try it with the other foot. Now alternate you feet and keep trying it.
4. Now combine the first 3 steps. You shouls be sliding a bit and moving wildly. Have fun. See You at the dance floor Rudie!
