Introducing The Skeletones, a sextet band based out of
Riverside, California. Formed in 1986 by Paul "Prince Skeletone"
Hampton, The Skeletones have become a mainstay in the California
music scene for numerous years. Makeda Dread of 91X fame (a
Southern California alternative music station) call The Skeletones,
"The #1 ska band in California and perhaps the world." Dave
Wankling of General Public proclaims The Skeletones of, "Having a
refreshing sound." The band plays a style of music that is being
called "The New Generation's Music." The Skeletones play a
combination of several different musical styles such as soul, jazz,
rock, and reggae but utilizing ska as their main element. The
direct result is a professional act that will become a powerful
force in the music industry. Front-man Jonas "Monkey Man"
Cabrera provides insightful lyrics, strong vocals and frantic
gestures on stage that leave you wanting more and more. "The
Skeletones" - Garth Schultz on trombone, Kip Wirtzfeld on tenor
sax, and Cabrera on trumpet, are a tight horn section that gives the
music an extra punch. The rhythm section, Jason Schultz on
drums, Alex Tasch on guitar, Mark Cummings on bass and Hampton
playing keyboard, are a cohesive unit that provides The Skeletones
a unique sound that is second to none.
Since their first ever record release in 1988 titled
"Introducing the Skeletones," The Skeletones have since appeared
on four international compilations 1) Skanking Around the World
(Unicorn Records phaz-33), 2) The California Ska Quake (Moon
Records MR031), 3) We Don't Skare (Semaphore Productions TF
260) and most recently, Step On It - the best of the "SKA PARADE"
radio show (A to Y Productions A2Y002). However, the band is
taking the world by storm with their self-titled compact disc.
Receiving national distribution as well as radio airplay across the
U.S. and Canada followed by extensive touring across the country
and Canada is proof that The Skeletones are a hard working band to
be reckon with.
The words explosive, refreshing, original and uplifting are
just some of the adjectives used by the industry to describe
The Skeletones. Having shared the stage with such
heavyweights as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fishbone, School
of Fish, 311, and Echo and the Bunnymen is added evidence that
The Skeletones can play with and cover a broad spectrum of
music.
