Chapter Three

Chloe's next classes that followed were a bore, but all the teachers had been real nice to her unlike Mr Cornwell. Luckily Selina had been in every one of her classes so far, which was a good thing since Selina seemed to want to be her friend. Chloe actually forgot about her loneliness without her mates, and enjoyed Selina's jokes she often cracked up. Selina seemed to know everybody. Everyone said hello to her in class, even when they were walking down corridors in between periods. Lunchtime came around, and Selina invited Chloe to hang around with her. Chloe agreed, and they both talked enthusiastically at a cafeteria table. Chloe had found out that only a selected few of "jocks and sporties" had lunchtime at 12:00pm and she and Selina had been two of them. The rest of the school had lunch at 12:30pm. Selina was a cheerleader, and definitely looked the part too. All the "jocks and sporties" had lunch early because of the early meets they sometimes had. Selina was very pretty, with her emerald green eyes and long cascading waterfall of chocolate she called her hair. No wonder she was the head cheerleader. Chloe had no idea why she had been designated to have lunch at "jock time" as Selina called it. They both talked about their boyfriends, and their families. Selina told Chloe that she generally hung around her boyfriend who's name was Locke, as well as Nadia, Laney & Katrina who Chloe had met back in Science. Chloe told Selina about her close friends back in Miami High, Richelle and Angel. They were both so into their conversation and both had found out that they actually had a lot in common. Chloe saw Nick walk past just when she was telling Selina about how she had met her boyfriend Shane, when Chloe had actually misplaced her clothes while skinnydipping in a lake. Immediately Chloe paused halfway through her sentence. Selina, following Chloe's gaze, realised at an instant why Chloe had grown so quiet. "Pretty cute huh?" Selina said. "Huh? Oh no... well yes, but I was just wondering how he gets his hair so silky" Chloe replied immediately in defense. "Sure Clo, c'mon just admit it, you like the guy" Selina said. "Selina, I have a BOYFRIEND, but yeah, Nick is cute" Chloe answered. "So you know his name huh? Oh, and if I do remember correctly, he stuck up for you in Science class?" Selina teased. "He's not my type though..." Chloe argued. "Well girl, you need to get your head checked, cuz he's perfect for you!" Selina laughed. Chloe groaned. "I have a boyfriend who I love very much and I don't think Mr I've-Never-Had-A-Zit-On-My-Face over there is going to break Shane and I up very easily. Besides he's got a girlfriend." "He does?" Selina seemed surprised. "Uh huh, see that girl over there sitting beside him? That's her, she was fawning all over him in Science" Chloe said matter-of-factly. "Oh you dumass" Selina laughed "Her name's Mandy, they're best friends, always have been best friends.... actually the only friend he's ever had until a few years ago." Chloe listened intently but still didn't believe that Mandy was Nick's best friend. Selina, seeing she had gotten Chloe's attention, quickly added, "You know, he never used to be such a Mr I'm-Such-A-Babe. When he was younger, before his balls dropped, he was UGLY! Well no, I'm exaggerating, he was average looking, just not a guy you'd like to go out with. He was just unpopular because he was into singing and dancing... you know, queer stuff. Never liked sports much, always quiet." Chloe tried her best to imagine him as a turd, but it didn't work. "You're lying to me aren't you?" Chloe asked. "No way... look, come with me" Selina replied. "Where are we going?" Chloe asked. Selina answered, "To the school library!"
