Chapter Three

~ August 24, 1997 ~

Piper, Jana, and Jordan lounged in Piper's living room watching a "made for tv" movie. It had been 4 years since Nick made the promise to Jordan of not forgetting her and he kept it. He phoned her whenever possible, and sent letters even more. He'd write about how incredible the feeling was, and how great it made him feel. And it made her feel just as... incredible. He was happy, and that's what she wanted... all she wanted.

"This is such a boring movie," Piper said collapsing to the ground from the sofa.

"I know, why are we watching this?" Jordan asked trying to find the remote. Jordan and Piper became aquainted after Nick had left. Aquainted after Jana introduced them to each other. Three years of hanging out, parties, and fights... the three of them were like sisters. Jordan had invited Piper over one night and she met Nick over the phone like Jana, although Piper still hadn't met him.

"Is someone gonna get that or do I have to get up?" Piper asked still laying on the ground half asleep. Jana reached over to where the phone was on the other side of the couch.

"Hello?"

"Hey, is this Jana?"

"Yea, who is this?"

"The guy on the phone"

"Nick! Hey, how are you?"

"I'm good, listen, I was wondering if you, Jordan, and Piper would be able to come over tomorrow for lunch? The guys, Julia and Kymmi are gonna be there."

"Umm, hold on," Jana said and asked the girls if they could make it. They agreed since it would be the first time they would meet the other members of the group.

"Sure, we'll be there. Just one question... who are Julia and Kymmi?"

"Hey, I'm glad you guys could make it," Nick said greeting the three girls at the front door. He showed them over to the family room where the others were. "Everyone, I'd like you to meet Piper, Jordan, and Jana," Nick said gesturing to each girl as he said their name.

"Hi, I'm everyone," Brian said walking up to the girls. The girls smiled at the humor while Nick introduced them to the others. The girls sat down on the couch while Kevin got up to check on the food. A minute later he came back in. "Food's ready" he said.

They were all gathered outside in the back eating. Kevin walked over to where Julia was sitting but she got up right as he sat down. Jordan noticed and asked Kymmi about it. "Kevin has a thing for Julia, he really likes her. Unfortunately she doesn't know how much, doesn't want to know. I've tried telling her many times but she just changes the subject."

"Why doesn't she want to know?" Kymmi explained to her about what happened to Julia in highschool. How she tried forgetting but couldn't.

"It wasn't just the whole lunch scene. When she was a sophomore, a guy in her grade asked her out, as a dare. Of course she didn't know until he told the entire grade about how she actually thought he'd go out with her. Guess who dared him."

"Kevin?"

Kymmi let out a pitiful smile, her stare at the ground in front of her. "She didn't know until after she asked him to the prom." Jordan looked over at Kevin. His eyes were glued on Julia. She felt bad for him, she knew what it felt like to want, need someone. She felt ashamed of how she felt. At least she was friends with Nick, Kevin didn't even have that. She was sick of feeling sorry for herself. She had people who liked being with her, loved her. So what was the problem? She knew what it was, but it was time for her to let go. She would put it behind her and move on. There was only one thing she wanted now. She wasn't gonna sit around anymore. If she wantd Nick, she was gonna do something about it. Engulfed in her thought, she hadn't notcied Howie had come over and sat next to Kymmi.

"You're coming with us tomorrow to the signing right?" he asked Kymmi.

"Yeah, definately. Hey Jordan, you, Jana, and Piper are coming too aren't you?"

"Umm, yeah Nick said something about that."

"Good, " Howie said right before he wrapped Kymmi in a hug.

"You two going out?" Jordan asked.

"Yeah, for about two years now," Kymmi said with a huge smile on her face.

"You make a cute couple," she said smiling at how adorable they looked.

"You thought I was 17!?" Piper said surprised.

"You have a young face, I didn't mean to be rude," Brian told her. "No, you weren't, sorry if I came out sounding mad, it's actually kind of flattering," she told him.

He smiled and said, "Actually, I'm kinda glad you're 20."

"Why's that?"

"Umm, no reason," he said nervously.

"Cute," she whispered to herself.

"What?" he asked.

"What..."

"You said something,"

"No, I didn't,"

"Yes you did, your lips moved,"

"You were looking at my lips?"

"No... no,"

"You just said it,"

"No I didn't,"

"Yes you did,"

"Okay, so maybe you didn't say anything,"

"You're right... but you were still looking at my lips."

They looked at each other and they smiled. Brian was the first to stop. He looked at Piper. She was so beautiful. Piper noticed Brian's stare. "What?" she asked.

"Huh? Oh, nothing," he said looking away. He turned back and looked at her again. "Would you like to..."

She waited a few moments and when Brian didn't say anything she asked him, "Would I like to what?"

He took a deep breath and said, "Would you like to go out with me sometime?"

She let out a smile and said, "I'd love to... took you long enough." Brian laughed and they started to playfully hit each other.

"You're the "bad boy" of the group aren't you?" Jana said noticing his tattoos and piercings.

"I like to be different," A.J. responded, "You judge by appearance don't you."

She looked him over again and said, "I never said that."

"You didn't have too,"

She crossed her arms, smiled, and said, "You don't know me, you judged me on the first comment that came out of my mouth." She eyed him over again, unfolded her arms, turned around, and walked away.

A.J. got up and walked over to Kevin. "You wouldn't happen to know anything about Jana would you?"

"Not really, why?" he asked.

"Hey guys, what's going on?" Nick said joining them.

"Nick, you're friends with Jana right?" Kevin asked.

"Yea, why?"

"A.J. wants to know about her."

"What do you want to know?"

"How old is she?"

"17... you like her or something?"

"...something...," A.J. said looking across the pool to where Jana stood looking right back at him. She turned around after a few seconds and began talking to Julia.

"You realize A.J.'s staring at you right?" Julia asked. Jana turned back and looked at him. He wasn't looking at her anymore, but when she turned to look at him, he looked back.

"If he does, then it'll pass..." she said.

"And if it doesn't...?"

"...then I feel sorry for him."
