Ramones box set to be released

I got the following piece of information from the official Radioactive Records Ramones page:

The long-awaited home video and live album from the Ramones, culled largely from their very last concert at the Palace in Los Angeles last year, which featured Eddie Vedder, Chris Cornell, Rancid, and Dee Dee Ramone, is expected to be released on Radioactive before Christmas. The rockumentary-type video also features interview footage and clips from the Ramones' second CBGB's show in New York.

Once again, this came from the official Radioactive Records Ramones page. More info. on what Joey is up to these days can be found by looking there.

On an online chat on Sonicnet on September 24, Joey said that the release date for this is November 4. Mark your calendars.

(Incidentally, I have no more info. on this...what you see is what I know)

Joey spoke of the new album on "The Howard Stern Show" recently. You can listen to a clip of what he had to say right here Thanks to Guy Deschenes for sending me the clip

Joey Ramone on "The Howard Stern Show"

On September 12, Joey Ramone made another in a long line of appearances on "The Howard Stern Show." His main purpose for appearing was that he was promoting the upcoming Iggy Pop/Stooges tribute album that he is appearing on (Joey contributes "1969", with 2 of the Misfits and Daniel Rey backing him up).

While on the show, they played a bit of Joey's song and Joey also confirmed that a video and CD of the Ramones final show would indeed be released by this coming Christmas.

You can listen to a clip of what he had to say about these right here. Thanks to Guy Deschenes for sending me the clip

Dee Dee Ramone "Zonked" CD coming soon

As has been much talked about on the internet, Dee Dee is supposed to be releasing a new solo CD called "Bad Horoscope" this fall. What hasn't been mentioned anywhere that I've seen is that he's also releasing a CD called "Zonked", scheduled for an October 14, 1997 release on the Other People's Music label. It is reported to contain 13 new songs, which makes me wonder if Dee Dee decided to change the name of the "Bad Horoscope" album, as I would think that it's EXTREMELY unlikely that he would release 2 different albums at the same time. CD Now is taking pre-orders for Dee Dee's "Zonked" CD.

Joey Ramone's Backyard Bash on the radio

On August 7, radio station WDST-FM in Woodstock, NY aired a live lunchtime show called "Joey Ramone's Backyard Bash", which featured short sets by 3 bands that Joey really likes, namely: The Pristines, The Independents, and D Generation. Joey joined the Independents as well as D Generation for some Ramones songs. With D Generation, Joey sang on "Questioningly" and "I Wanna Be Sedated". With the Independents, Joey sang on "Slug", "Pet Sematary", "I Don't Want You" and a cover of Johnny Thunders' "I Love You" (which the Ramones themselves covered on "Adios Amigos").

Marky Ramone plays with the Misfits

On July 11 in Buffalo, New York, Marky Ramone and the Intruders played the first of a short series of shows opening for the Misfits. The definite highlight of the show was when Jerry Only (bass player for the Misfits) brought Marky out during the Misfits encore to sit behind the drums for a cover of "Blitzkrieg Bop"! Jerry even had Marky do the "1-2-3-4!" to count-off the song. Here is a photo of Marky on stage shaking hands with Doyle from the Misfits:

Here is a photo of Marky on stage earlier that evening during his set with the Intruders:

Marky Ramone & The Intruders in concert: my report

I went to see the Intruders on May 9 in Buffalo. I thought that it was a really good show. I liked their songs better live then on their CD, but the CD is still good. There weren't too many people there, maybe 150-200 max., but that didn't take away any of the Intruders' enthusiam. Todd Youth from Murphy's Law has now replaced Skinny Bones on vocals and guitar. Here's the setlist (I don't know some of the song titles, so I put lyrics that were part of the chorus in parenthesis):

Marky Ramone & The Intruders to tour US Spring '97

This spring, Marky Ramone & The Intruders (who just got back from a 2-month tour of Europe) will be embarking on a 2-month U.S. tour, beginning in May and continuing until sometime in June. Here are the dates that I know (and of course, as with any tour, all dates are subject to change):

Keep an eye out for Marky Ramone and The Intruders debut album, which is out now in Europe and Brazil, and which will be released in the U.S. on May 6.

Check out the offical bio for Marky Ramone and the Intruders right here.

Thanks to Spider for all of the info. and help

Ramones appear on Howard Stern soundtrack

"Pinhead" appears on the soundtrack to Howard Stern's movie PRIVATE PARTS. The soundtrack debuted at number one on the U.S. sales charts. It's the original version of the song, not an updated version or anything like that. The song also appears in the film itself (Howard is shown introducing the song and doing a goofy dance to the first maybe 15 seconds of the song...also a vinyl copy of "Leave Home" appears briefly on screen).

"Rock-n-Roll High School" re-released

rock-n-rollhighschool

"Rock-n-Roll High School" has been re-released on home video and was slated for re-release on laserdisc on January 29.

The videocassette features an interview with the film's director, Roger Corman, conducted by film critic Leonard Maltin.

The laserdisc, released by Lumivision, will have a number of interesting special supplemental features. They are listed below:

Dee Dee, Marky, and CJ: The Remains

On December 18, 1996, at Coney Island High in New York City, and on December 28, 1996 at The Continental, also in New York City, Dee Dee, Marky, and CJ Ramone played shows together under the name "The Remains".

From what I've heard about the shows, they played mainly Ramones songs (including "53rd & 3rd", "Listen To My Heart", "Commando", "I Don't Wanna Walk Around With You", and "Wart Hog", among others). Also, apparently both Dee Dee and CJ played guitar, while someone named "Barbara Ramone" played bass. Joey was reportedly in attendance at one of them, but he didn't come on stage at all.

Ramones movie in the works

The following report on the potential Ramones movie was taken from Addicted To Noise's November 8, 1996 edition of Music News Of The World.

Here's the report in it's entirety:

Addicted To Noise staff writer Gil Kaufman reports: Some time ago we reported that the Ramones were going to release a home video of their final show around Christmas. Now we've learned that the project may hit the big screen. According to the folks at Silvey+, the video production company whose stable includes the director Kevin Kerslake (Nirvana, STP, Green Day, Bush), who filmed the show, the project has grown and mutated into a possible full-length movie/documentary/overview of the band's career.

A source at Silvey said that the idea of doing a 70-minute concert film with testimonials from the some of the band's peers was on-line, and then one day Joey and Johnny Ramone dropped off a whole load of old concert footage and television appearances from the span of the group's career, from historic appearances on the English "Gray Whistle Test" show, to bits from Don Kirschner's show and the Tomorrow show with Tom Snyder.

In the estimated 25 hours of footage is a single-camera reel from the band's first CBGB's show, home movies and band interviews, much of it rare or never-before-seen. "We'd pretty much edited the movie down to a 70-minute length with testimonials from fans like Lemmy, Jello Biafra, Ronnie Spector and Rob Zombie, and then the presentation started to change when we got this new stuff," said the Silvey source.

Joey Ramone told us that the footage includes interview with Johnny Ramone and Rob Zombie that were filmed at Johnny's new house in L. A. "The first time I saw Johnny's new house was watching the footage," laughed Joey. "Johnny in his Elvis room. It reminded me of Graceland. An Elvis couch, Elvis posters, Elvis lamp, Elvis everything. It was amusin'. "

Now, the production folks are merely waiting word on licensing snafus for some of the archival footage before they tear into it and attempt to chisel it down to a more manageable 100 minute length, with the hope that the project will debut early next year. What is still up in the air is whether the movie will premiere in theaters first, or go straight to video. "Of course, we'd like it to hit theaters first," said the source, "since we've gotten great interviews with the band, the Heads, Debbie Harry, Richard Hell, Danny Fields and are still hoping to get some more, but we don't know yet." The project doesn't have a title yet, but Joey Ramone has offered a provocative working title, the double-edged "Live Forever."
