Eternity X- The Edge
Perhaps one of the best releases of 1997 or perhaps one of the best releases ever would be more realistic to say (other than Mind Games which ranks a little higher above this). Upon first listen to this album, I found one song I liked, "Rejection" (their little tribute to Alanis Morrisette) but as I kept listening I kept finding more and more that I liked. Now I'm down to one song I don't like too much. 10 out of 11 songs that I like is a record for me. The best songs on here are "Fly Away" with some amazing keyboard work, "The Confession" in which Keith sounds so very dark and amazing.....his voice can not be topped in this song (lets pray for no Eternity X tribute albums :-)). "A Day In Verse" was one of the last songs I started liking....mostly due to the Styx-feel at the beginning but I absolutely love this song now.....the lyrics are so depressing but the end of this song shows an immense amount of hope ("it will be okay, after all we made it through yesterday"). That one song alone has gotten me through more shit in my life than anything else. "The Looking Glass" is sure to freak you out- the really high vocals on this one are not provided by an opera singer like I thought but rather by Keith- amazing how he did that. "The Edge Of Madness" is another song that might freak you out a bit with the chorus having four distinct voices (all provided by Keith coming at you) and in the middle section, you'll even hear him swearing at the band (all in fun though). No words can describe how amazing this album is....just go and buy it....believe me, its worth it.
