The Nixons- Six/Halo (1992/1994)

A rare early look into The Nixons career and unfortunately I only have this material on CDR (I WILL NOT MAKE COPIES OF THIS MATERIAL IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCE). Anyhow, the music on these two discs are much more raw sounding than the bands first official 1995 release Foma. Zak Maloy still comes off sounding a lot like Eddie Vedder on quite a bit of the material but songs like "Secret" show the bands more sensitive side. The band also knows how to rock out as they do a killer version of "Trampoline" on here that overpowers the version on Foma. A lot of this material was later released on Foma so this isn't a mandatory release except for Nixons fanatics. Six contains the most unreleased tunes- a very REM-ish sounding "Hero", a punk-sounding "One By One" and a straight-ahead rock song called "Killing The Clowns". "Displaced Agression" is also an amazing tune from that record and focuses on some very dark riffs. The unreleased songs from the Halo recording include "Having Fun", a very intense song despite the title, "Scoop" which is also very heavy and it seems the band were pissed at the media in this song, and also "Phoenix". These are great and exceptionally valuable collectors items if you can get your hands on the real deal and fans of the band will eat this material up.
