Promethean- Somber Regards
Finland's Promethean play a mix of progressive metal, gothic metal and dark folk rock music. Interesting combination indeed but the vocalist kills the whole entire album. Singer Timo's vocals are so hard to get past- its kind of like a mix between Peter Steele and Weird Al Yankovich with absolutely no emotion at all. The musicians on this disc are exceptional though. The full time flute player (flutist???), Vilijami is a very nice addition to the band giving songs like "Somber Regards" and "Pennywhistle" a very nice touch. "Pennywhistle/Attack Of The Uberwermi" is probably the most progressive the band gets which at times reminds me of Dream Theater especially with the keyboard parts. "Self-portrait" is probably the most touching song on the album and on this song, I am even able to get over Timo's emotionless vocals. Great music, needs new singer.
