Flotsam And Jetsam- Unnatural Selection (1999)

Flotsam And Jetsam returns with another full on metal assault following up their album High. The major difference between this and High is the muddy sound they have going on now possibly because of Jason Ward's bass sound being so high (no pun intended) in the mix. It kind of reminds me of Bruce Dickinson's The Chemical Wedding in sound but not as bad. That being said, the music on here is so-so. Some of it is outstanding but some I could've done without. "Promise Keepers" is probably the strongest track on the album with a groove that doesn't stop while "Fuckers" relies on heaviness alone and is a great tell-off anthem to anyone you hate. "Welcome To The Bottom" is the bands ballad but its not a complete slow song (its one of those Metallica One-type ballads that mix heavy and soft). Even though, I think this is a pretty weak album, I have faith that the band will come back on their next album....I've heard reports that they are going back to the Drift-Cuatro sound and man, I hope they do.
