Beginning at the age of six, Christina Aguilera has been recognized as a natural performer. Getting her feet wet in school talent shows helped prepare Christina for her performance on the hit TV show Star Search and other gigs like singing the National Anthem for the Pittsburgh Steelers and then landing a spot as a Mousketeer on the ‘The New Mickey Mouse Club’.
Staying focused is what got Christina where she is today. When she was in high school she knew she wanted to have her own album recorded and released before she graduated.
In 1999 Christina broke out from behind the scenes and the public fell in love with her soulful voice. Singing such difficult ranges as a high E above middle C gained Christina a lot of attention. Her self-entitled album which produced many hit singles such as, ‘Genie In a Bottle’ and ‘What a Girl Wants’.
’99 was a very good year for Christina who was named one of the most fascinating women of 1999, she graced the pages of several magazine covers, performed as a musical guest on 'Saturday Night Live,' 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,' 'The Rosie O'Donnell Show,' (just to name a few) and won 1999's Best New Artist at the ALMA Awards (annual event honoring the best in entertainment from the Hispanic-American community).
But not to worry, 2000 was also a great year for Christina. She brought home plenty of accolades as she performed with Enrique Iglesias at the 2000 Super Bowl Half Time Show, was nominated for two Grammy Awards for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal performance and to top it all off she launched her national summer 2000 tour.
Recently, Christina was nominated for a Grammy Award for the Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals category, recognizing her input in the ‘Lady Marmalade’ collaboration with Pink, Mya, Lil’ Kim and Missy Elliott. The second nomination was for her duet with Ricky Martin on ‘Nobody Wants to Be Lonely’.
Also, on February 24th, Christina (along with N’Sync, Bon Jovi and others) will be performing in the closing ceremonies of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Looks like Ms. Aguilera isn’t trying to slow down her smoking train of success anytime soon, so don’t get left in the dust as Christina makes her next move.
