Destiny's Child
The original members (Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett) that made up Destiny's Child, claim to have known each other and have practiced as a group for more than half their lives. It's no wonder why the girls got off to such a good start...not to mention that they were being promoted by Fugee mastermind Wyclef Jean.
Destiny's Child's progressive fusion of hip-hop, soul, sass and sweetness was just what the public wanted as their music scorched up the charts. Their first album Destiny's Child featured a hit single that got the girls recognized. No, No, No was remixed by Wyclef Jean and that's what really caught the public's attendion.
The Writing's On The Wall was their second effort and that's when the troubles began. With the success of the group came big egos and bigger attitudes. Even though this second effort had even bigger success with songs such as Bills, Bills, Bills and Say My Name, much to their fan's surprise, two of the original members LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett abruptly left the group and were replaced by new members Farrah Franklin and Michelle Williams. But that only lasted a hot second and Farrah came and went as fast as the girls could say her name.
Many believed that the group just would not be able to land with both feet on the ground after a second break-up in one year. But the young women prevailed and now the group's three remaining members (Beyonce, Kelly and Michelle) claim that ther will be no more additions or departures to Destiny's Child.
They even effectionately call the group "DC3," citing that the group is stronger than ever and stating that it was evidently their "destiny" to end up with the current members of the group.
While the old members of DC have now gone their separate ways (LaToya & LaTavia have formed a group called Angel and Farrah is pursuing a solo career), this group says they'll stand the test of time.
Currently, they have become one of the absolute #1 favorite female groups worldwide. With their third album Survivor under their belts, Destiny's Child has become a household name. They've even been compared to Dianna Ross and the Supremes.
Well, things are looking good for this all-girl group, and hopefully it'll stay that way.
