EVE
The 20-year-old filly from Philly began her career in her early teens as a part of an all-female five-piece vocal group. She switched to rapping with the advice of the group's manager. Eve soon became known as Eve Of Destruction, and made a reputation for herself as a skilled rapper.
Some friends of hers introduced her to Dr. Dre, who was impressed by her spur-of-the-moment audition, and he later invited her to work with him in L.A. on his Aftermath label. She completed a demo tape with him that included the song "Eve Of Destruction", and it ended up on the Bulworth soundtrack.
She worked with Dre for eight months but unfortunately, the business of running his new label prevented Dr. Dre from working with Eve further. Eve met up with DMX while in L.A., and she was added to the Ruff Ryders Ride or Die compilation cd.
At first the Ruff Ryders had little faith in Eve until she knocked out "What Y'all Want". After that single blew up, she became affecionately known as the 'first lady' of the all-male Ruff Ryder crew, which features artists such as DMX, Drag On and the L.O.X.
Eve went on to claim even more respect when her debut album, "First Lady Ruff Ryder," hit the Billboard charts at number one. The album benefited from the experience (and contacts) she'd gained over the years and features guest spots with the Roots, Missy Elliott, DMX, the L.O.X. and Janet Jackson.
With a background as a former stripper, Eve is now being penned as the leader of a second wave of sex-laden female rappers. The fist wave came in the form of 'Lil Kim and Foxy Brown. The second wave includes Eve, Solé and the recently made over So So Def artist Da Brat.
But don't let her sexy past cloud your judgement. The 'First Lady Ruff Ryder' brings it Ruff Ryder style.
