Anyway, in 1997, on Joe's second cd, he started hitting us up with those sexy ballads like "All the Things Your Man Won’t Do" and "Love Scene". He was sporting a low fade with a few curls on top by then, singing outside in the rain waiting for his honey dip to get off work...whew! But anyway, back on track.
The new millenium finds Joe sporting a baldy, and Joe is coming to us live and direct with his latest cd "My Name Is Joe". This joint has smooth R&B melodies like the seductive "Somebody Gotta Be On Top" and "Treat Her Like A Lady". He says that all he wants to do is bring out more romance in R&B.
His music can be described as portraying a man who's searching for answers to essential romantic questions. A who's trying to understand a female's point of view.
"I love women and appreciate the role they play in my life," he says. "I'm trying to broaden the music's perspective on love and relationships, to bring some idealism and fantasy to it."
He grew up on Gospel greats like Commission, the Winans, Clark Sisters and Vanessa Bell Armstrong. But he was also hooked on soul legends Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Sam Cooke provided constant inspiration. But it wasn't until Joe got up on Bobby Brown, Guy and Keith Sweat that he recognized his own talents as an R&B singer and songwriter.
"By the time I was 16, I was playing in a 7-piece band in local clubs from 9pm till 4am, covering Johnny Gill, Bobby Brown and Babyface tunes."
Joe moved back and forth between Alabama and Georgia, writing music, singing and doing odd jobs. Then one day he purchased a one-way bus ticket to New Jersey where he knew somebody who know somebody in the music business and it was on from there.
Joe's style and finesse set him apart from the rest. He both writes and sings his beautiful romantic ballads. He also his mastered some producing techniques as he tuns in to the wants, needs and desires of women through his music. Joe says he is definitely not ashamed of expressing his feelings through the sincerity of his lyrics. He has done some production work for Tina Turner, Barry White and Ideal just to name a few.
