Elvis: A Brief Bio

This is only a brief overview of Elvis' life and I will be sure to add a more proper biography soon. For now I am only trying to complete this site and get rid of all the broken links.  When all is finished I will do a more proper biography.  Thanks.
Elvis Aron Presley was born on Jan. 8, 1935 to Vernon and Gladys Presley in Tupelo Miss.  The Presley's were poor as people could be at the time and Vernon tried a variety of jobs to support his family.  He was often away and Elvis developed a close bond with his mother.  She had lost her other son at birth and her ability to have other children.  She put all her hopes on her one surviving son and was not to be let down.  The family moved to Memphis in 1948 and that's where Elvis' musical talents began to bloom.  Young Elvis showed his natural musical talent at an early age and pursued music through his youth. At age 19 he was signed by Sun Records in Memphis and in 1955 was signed by RCA records.  He quickly shot to the top of the national charts with his first RCA single "Heartbreak Hotel".  Feature films followed and Elvis was the biggest star on the planet.  In 1958 he was drafted into the U.S. army, which many felt would be the end of his popularity.  In fact when he returned to recording in 1960, he was more popular than ever.  However he began to concentrate more on making films (most of which mediocre in quality) and his popularity in the 60's began to wane.  However he returned to live performance in 1968 and his popularity surged.  He was a huge concert draw throughout the 1970's and his popularity was at high.  He died on August 16, 1977 following years of dependence on prescription drugs.  However a remarkable thing happened.  In the year following his death, he sold more records than in any previous year in his life.  Today scores of fans flock to his home in Memphis "Graceland" and his records continue to sell remarkably.  He is more popular today than ever and is still perhaps the biggest selling artist in the world.
