Carrie's Story: My Backstreet Boys concert
~Friday, February 9, 2001~
- Mellon Arena, - Pittsburgh, PA, USA -

It was Saturday morning, in December when I woke up at 7:00 am. "Why would ANYONE ever wake up that early on a weekend?!" you ask? Backstreet Boys tickets were going onsale of course!!

I sat at the computer staring at the screen for like EVER. Then at 10:00 am, they went onsale. I typed like a madman and it didn't process. We drove out to Giant Eagle and I saw that the line was sooo long. I stood there for a while then I'd get someone to stand in my spot while I ran to the phone, crying, to get someone at my house to try online again.

I saw one of my teachers as I screamed into the phone, "I need Backstreet Boy tickets, ok!!!" I also ran over an old lady.

I finally got tickets, thanks to the people in front of me changing thier minds because the seats kinda sucked. So we thought, anyway.

Every single day at school I would write how many days were left until the concert on my hand. So for 70 days I wrote something like 57 days until BSB! WOO HOO!

On the day before the concert I had stickers on my forehead that said "I'm goin to BSB tommorrow!" and the day of the concert I scrubbed it at school and had "I'm goin to BSB" all over my face.

We arrived at the concert and we wondering around when we decided to stand and get a look at the tourbuses. We were right above them when all the sudden we heard screaming. We looked down and saw Brian running right out of a tourbus!!! I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Then 15 minutes later, we saw Kevin walk out of it. My friend Amanda forgot to put the flash on my camera both times a Backstreet Boy came out ut thats alright, I'll have that permanately in my mind forever.

We went up to our seats (after buying $20 programs...expensive!!) and Krystal came on. My friend Becky, who had gone the night before, had told me that she was hilarious when she played the piano and headbanged her bald little head. I was expecting her to suck but she was amazing! After she went, we watched them set up for BSB for a little, then we went wandering. I bought a BACKSTREET GIRLS RULE t-shirt ($32) and we all stole KISS FM and B94 signs that were hanging around. We decided to go back and we got lost!! As soon as we found our seats, the lights went out. We shrieked and RAN to our seats and sat down.

All kinds of cool firey lights flew toward the stage. It was so awesome. Then....

"We've been through days of thunder...some people said we don't belong. They tried to pull us under, but here we stand together and we're millions strong..."

THERE THEY WERE!!!!! I was so excited. And our seats really weren't that bad.

They sang the best songs. I was kinda surprised they didn't sing "Quit Playin' Games", "The One", or "As Long AS You Love Me." But it was good. Then they came out in the center to sing "I'll Never Break Your Heart", my all-time fave BSB song.

The concert was amazing. I'll never forget it.
