MAX MARTIN
AGE 28 WHY HIM? With more hooks in
him than a tackle box, this Stockholm-based songwriter-producer could write you a top 10
smash. Too bad he's so busy churning out hopelessly
hummable hits for the Backstreet Boys ("I Want It That Way" and "As Long as
You Love Me"), 'N Sync ("Tearin' Up My Heart"), and Britney Spears
("...Baby One More Time") instead. WORK
HABITS "I have this little Dictaphone with me
everywhere I go, and that's how I write. I don't even touch the instruments until the song
is done." WORST JOB "I used to be in a heavy metal band called It's Alive. Pretty much
my whole teen period was spent in a cellar somewhere playing with longhaired dudes like
myself." UNLIKELY SOURCE OF INSPIRATION Sweden's most famous pop export. "I've rediscovered ABBA. They used
to be the [silly] thing that you did in front of the mirror. But lately I've really
discovered the
songs. They're incredible." NEXT Remixing Spears' upcoming single, "(You Drive Me) Crazy," and
replenishing his musical coffers. "I'm actually in a writing period now," he
says. "Because I don't have many songs left." |
