DANIEL ON THE B105 MORNING CREW 30th of August 1999
DJ1 : We habe the brand new single from the latest album for Savage Garden, and Daniel Jones is going to take our call. DJ2 : And it’s even more special ‘cause we got his code name, the name that he actually registers in DJF : In a hotel DJ2 : A different name DJ1 : He’s used this for a couple of years. Let’s see the last time it was used…hum, who’s there ? Kylie : Kylie DJ1 : Hi Kylie, Mr E.Wok please Kylie : One moment
~Telephone rings twice~
Daniel : (in a tiny sleepy voice) Hello… DJ1 : Ewok ! Give me a break ! Daniel : Who is that ? oh…hi guys DJF : What sort of name is Ewok ? DJ1 : We never would have thought of that one ! Daniel : Wow, Darren was trying to get me a P.Leia for a while, for Princess Leia. I wasn’t really into that one. DJ1 : So how long have you been using this handle that we have now destroyed ? Daniel : Hum, I have to get another one ! Over the last two years I suppose DJF : Oh really ? You mean all the times we’ve been chasing you, all we had to go for was a Star Wars name ? My goodness ! Daniel : (laugh) I tell you it used to get very confusing on asian promo trips ! DJ1 : Oh yeah ? Hey look, we got to tell you we really appreciate what you’re doing for us this morning. DJ2 : Yeah it doesn’t sound like we have waken you up at all Daniel : (laughing) No you haven’t ! DJ1 : But this is the sort of thing that Savage Garden does for the B105 morning crew Daniel : Yeah… DJF : So how are you guys ? Daniel : I’m good, I’m actually in Sydney, you obviously knew that. And actually there’s some construction going on, there’s construction going on everywhere here so I was up at about 5, 5 :30 just dozing off so I knew that you…i heard that you may call, so I’m glad you did. DJ2 : I saw you on…I think it was the Current Affair Daniel : Yeah, good looking fellow am I ? DJF : Woo ! baby ! DJ2 : How’s your budget on your clip ? I mean, a pretend railway, a pretend carriage, a pretend station, they both move ? DJ1 : This is a Seinfeld connection isn’t it ? Daniel : It is yeah. I think the episode where Elaine got a TV guide or something, was actually shot on the same train in the studio. And to give a sense of the train moving, the actual platform in the background moves instead. So it was really quite amazing this whole studio set you know, and it was visually for us very well. DJ2 : Hey coming from Logan it must have been strange to work on a train that didn’t have a good radio playing Daniel : (laughing) We took care of that Jamie DJF : We’d expect nothing less Daniel DJ1 : Ok, so give us the programme. What’s happening to you guys while you’re at home ? pretty brieftly. Daniel : It’s pretty much like a week of you know, radios, phone interviews and some press and things like that. DJ2 : I do want to speak to Darren because on the Current Affair he said ‘We don’t do it for the money’.I just want to hit him on the head with a baseball bat Daniel : (something like…) I was sure that was coming DJ1 : Are you happy with the way the album’s turned out ? Daniel : Yeah I am actually yeah. I mean, I’m not gonna try and do the sales speech to everyone in Brisbane but it is a great album, really really good album, I’m really happy with it DJ1 : Well the last time we spoke to you, we couldn’t believe how much…like you’ve been 11 hours on one riff or something, just trying to get it right Daniel : Yeah, I still get trouble with it/ I’m still not through it (i don’t know which one is right, but i hear something like that… ?) DJF : Hey Daniel, I need to ask you a question. We get those pysterious faxes by someone who calls himself ‘Angel wings’. And this particular person has the low down on you like you wouldn’t believe, and so far they’ve been proved to be absolutely correct. Do you know who ‘Angel Wings’ is ? Daniel : No I’ve never heard of her DJF : ‘Cause they told me…this was dated the 10th of August, and this particular person told me that Darren was in New York doing interviews, and you were coming home, what the name of the single was, and described it as a ballad sweet pure and simple, and when the album was gonna be out, and whoever this person is I love them because they give me heaps of informations Daniel : I tell you, ‘sweet, pure and simple’, if it was taken from those words, it was probably up from the internet website DJF : ah ! Daniel : Yeah that was one of the…Leonie Messer, she would have written all that up for us on the internet. DJ2 : In the clip you’re playing a ? ? string guitar Daniel : Yeah, that was an old crappy thing, yeah…better than yours though DJ : Ok we’re gonna play the song now, so you wanna tell us a bit about it ? Daniel : Hum, yeah, this is probably the last song that we’ve actually written for this new album, it’s a love song called I knew I loved you, and…you know, have a listen, say what you think DJ1 : Here is it on B105 DJ2 : Written by Darren for Daniel right ? Daniel : Yeah…Hey come on ! What was that ? (laughs)
