As you have probably guessed, the Cardigans are one of my
favourite bands! I love their utimaltely cool style of alternative music that separates them from the rest.
Faves of mine include "Carnival", "Erase/Rewind", "Starter", "Lovefool", and "Marvel Hill".
The Cardigans is a group which consists of 5 members: Nina Persson, Peter Svensson, Begnt Lagerburg,
Mangus Sveningson, and Lars-Olof Johansson. Nina is the lead singer, Peter is the guitarist, Begnt is the drummer, Mangus is the bassist, and Lars-Olof is
the keyboardist. The band was formed in 1992 by Mangus and Peter in their hometown of Jönköping, Sweden. Nina then left art school to join the band.
Begnt was a math and science major before he joined the band to become their drummer. In 1993, the band hooked up with Doc-Tore Johansson. Through Doc-Tore,
the band was introduced to new instruments and old-school recording techniques. The final result (as quoted from the July, 1997 issue of Seventeen):
"bittersweet lyrics offset by a sparkling champagne backdrop." Their first release is called Emmerdale. The second release is called Life.
The 3rd cd is called First Band on the Moon. Their latest cd is entitled Gran Turismo. The Cardigans toured with Lilith Fair in 1997.
The 1997 movie production of Romeo and Juliet helped boost the Cardigans' popularity. The track "Lovefool" was a giant hit from their 3rd cd,
First Band on the Moon, which was featured in the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack. Hits from their latest release include "My Favourite Game" and "Erase/Rewind".

Interesting factoid: MTV reluctantly showed the music video for "My Favourite Game" because they thought it promoted "reckless driving".
I find their style of music quite interesting. The melody or tune is rarely carried out by the instruments. They're mainly there for the beat, bass, and what not. The melody/tune, however, is carried out in Nina's voice. Just a thought....
