The arena lights dim and thousands of fans start to scream for one of the most popular bands to come on stage and perform a show of a lifetime. the band is the Backstreet Boys and their concerts in the tri-state area sold out in under one hour. The three shows sold out so quickly that there were two additional performances added on. Some North students got their hands on tickets and were able to see Nick, Kevin, Howie, Brian, and A.J. in the most awaited concert of the year.

"It was amazing, the best concert I have ever been to," said sophomore Kasi Lynch who got as close to the guys as eighth row. Lynch attended the Nassau Coliseum show on Monday, September 27. She described the show as a space theme, in which they were floating over the audience with glowing costumes. There were also fireworks, lots of lights, and special effects. The guys got their audience involved, by throwing roses out to them and serenading fans onstage. The concert was always full of energy, whether they were dancing and singing to fast songs or slowing it down with some of their ballads. The opening act for the concert was EYC, a new pop group that is presently following in the Backstreet Boys' footsteps.

"They really got the crowd involved," says sophomore Brooke Hazlette who attended the concert at Continental Airlines Arena on Thursday, September 23. Hazlette described the concert as hysterical. Wherever she turned, there were t-shirts, posters, and screaming girls.

Sophomore Heather Platt added, "No matter where you were sitting, you had a good seat and could see everything really well."

The Backstreet Boys sang most of their songs from their new CD, Millennium, and threw in a few songs from their old CD, self titled Backstreet Boys. they opened with their current single, "Larger than Life" and closed with "I Want it That Way."

Though there were students who did get to go to the concert, there were some who were not fortunate. Sophomore Amanda LaMarca tried for hours to get tickets on the phone and the Internet, but never got through. She explained it as "discouraging" that she was not able to get the tickets after waiting so long.

"I was expecting the worst and hoping for the best," said LaMarca, who will keep on trying when the next concert comes to town.

All the students who got to go to the concert said the same thing, that it was definitely worth the money. Whether they went to Continental Airlines Arena or Nassau Coliseum, they got a show that they will always remember.
