First snogs, first jobs, spots and school - if 911 can survive their teens,
so can you...
The First Kiss
Spike: Don't worry about it. If it goes wrong and you mess up,
there'll always be another chance. Have another go!
Lee: Experiment too. That's what it's all about really.
Jimmy: Yeah, don't stress too much, if it's sloppy just mop yourself
up at the end and go again. Take some tissues!
Lee: It's always gonna be bad the first tine, so just keep going
until you get it right.
Going for old!
Lee: When I was 18, I dated a 30-year-old. It's fine.
I don't think an age gap matters if you're into one another.
Jimmy: I went out with someone who was 12 years older than me...
Spike: [Mishearing Jimmy] 12 years old! Bliemy, you kept that
one a bit quiet! Ha, ha, ha!
Jimmy: We bumped into her at the airport a few weeks ago...
Spike: What is she, 13 now? Ha, ha, ha!
Being Blown out
Lee: I don't know how to deal with that,
because I've never put myself in that situation with someone.
Spike: I never did it face-to-face either. I'd get my mate
to do it for me, so if she said no, then it wouldn't be too painful.
Jimmy: Yeah, that way, if she said no, you could just blame your mate
for asking!
Spike: It's still happening to me. Just the other day, I was walking
back home, and this girl comes up to me and asks if
I wanted to cop off with her mate! I couldn't believe it.
I said yes, obviously.
School
Spike: I know it's wired, but I loved it. I had a right laugh with
my mates. It was great. I'd get into the odd bit of trouble,
but I never got caught for the serious stuff.
Lee: I enjoyed it too, doing all the sports and being popular
with the ladies. The teachers used to write that on my report:
'No good at maths, but popular with the girls!'
Jimmy: I have to say I liked it too. Is that strange?
It's just playing the footie and having a laugh.
Best years of my life, aren't they?
Spike: I sound like my dad, but kids don't know how easy it is there.
Finish at 3:30pm, play sports and get long breaks and holidays.
I wish I had that now. I want to be a professional school kids!
Bullying
Jimmy: I wasn't bullied at school because I was good mates
with all the big lads.
Lee: I was bullied by sixth formers when I was in the first year.
I just dealt with it, 'cos I knew they were only doing it
because they were jealous.
Spike: I was pretty lucky 'cos my older brother was at the same
school and no-one would mess with him, so no-one messed with me.
Jimmy: If it is happening to you though,
I think you should tell someone you trust. If you don't it will
just go on, so stop it as soon as you can.
Lee: Yeah, 'cos it's not your fault, it's the person who's
doing the bullying. They've more than likely got problems at home
that need sorting out too.
Exams
Spike: I did all right, but I didn't shine or anything. The thing is,
I hated revising.
Jimmy: Same here. I tried to do it but I just didn't have the patience.
So don't think you're weird if you can't do it. It never did me any harm.
Lee: It's not until you leave school though that you
realise how important an education is. It might not seem like it
at the time but you do benefit from it.
Teenageangst
Spike: Your teenage years are the best. I had a right laugh.
Going out dancing and messing about. I was a bit naughty too.
Got into a bit of trouble, nothing serious, but it had to be done.
Lee: Yeah, I loved it - apart from the fact that I had cancer back then.
I missed two whole years between 14 and 16,
but I more than made up for it!
I was a bit of a fashion victim too. I look back on some pictures of me
and just think, 'What the hell do I look like?'
Jimmy: All I used to do was play footie and meet women and have the odd
lemonade. I loved it, it was all about just having fun.
Spike: Teenagers have probably got more to deal with these days
though, haven' t they?
Crikey, I sound like me dad, don't I? 'Kids these days,eh?'
Image
Jimmy: I had a brace but I was a bit too young for it to affect
my confidence. I'm glad I had it, 'cos it helped my teeth no end.
Apart from that, I can't remember suffering too badly
from spots or anything.
Spike: I had a few months where I got a really bad spots but there's
nothing you can do, is it there? I didn't give a stuff though.
They go eventually - so what's to worry about?
Lee: I used to get stick for the clothes I wore, 'cos I think
I was quite fashion-conscious, but it's just down to jealousy, isn't it?
Jimmy: The teen years are difficult though. You forget how much stick
you get, teachers knocking your confidence and getting spots and stuff.
You just have to believe in yourself and keep going.
Jobs 'n' Stuff
Jimmy: I had good support when I was at school.
I was so into my football that I wanted to be a PE teacher, so they told me
about all these extra exams I could take.
There's good advice out there if you know what you want to be.
Lee: Just find out what you want to do and stick at it.
The difficult thing is finding that one thing.
Spike: It's true, you have to stick at it, no matter what
anyone else says. If Jimmy and me had listened to people,
there'd be no 911.
Jimmy: People used to say, 'You're only dancers. You'll never make it.'
They don't laugh so loud now, I can tell you.
