Alexander James McLean (better known simply as AJ or by his nickname "Bone") was born on January 9m 1978, in West Palm Beach, Fla., and from the outset he has always had a pleasantly outrageous personality. As a youngster, he would be a cut-up in school and constantly be the center of attention among family and friends. It seemed inevitable, then, the AJ would gon on to a big entertainment career.
It was acting, though, instead of singing that attracted AJ early on. By age 12, he had appeared in 27 stage productions, including "Fiddler On The Roof," "The Nutcracker" and "THe King and I." He also played Dopey in a grade school productions of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs."
During junior high school, AJ got a part in "Welcome Freshmen" on Nickelodeon, and he began an ongoing relationship with Nickelodeon and The Disney Channel for future projects to include acting, singing, and dancing. It was during on audiotion that AJ, Howie Dorough and Nick Carter began discussing plans for the group that would gon on to become the Backstreet Boys.
AJ has said that his musical influences lean toward R&B and Motown-style grooves, from Stevie Wonder to Peabo Bryson, to The Temptations. AJ has also been known to listen to gospel artists such as Take 6, a trait he shares with fellow Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell.
In his free time, AJ enjoys cartooning, shopping, writing poetry, shooting pool and hoops, and being a puppetter, which undoubtedly endears him to the Backstreet Boys' youngest fans! He also is well known for going to McDonald's while on tour, because burgers and fries are his favorite food.

At 19, Nickolas Gene Carter is the youngest member of the Backstreet Boys. Born in Jamestown, N.Y., on January 28, 1980, to proud parents Jane and Robert Carter, Nick has been considered a "show stopper" for almost all of his short life. And what more would you except from someone born in the same hospital as legendary comedic star Lucille Ball?
As a youngster, Nick would often entertain customers at his father's Yankee Rebel Lounge. Later, after the Carter family relocated to Florida, Nick started to make a name for himself in the local entertainment business. His first breaks included being cast as the lead in a school production of "The Phantom Of The Opera" and being picked to perform in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' halftime shows for two seasons. At age 12, Nick took top honors on the 1992 New Original Amateur Houw, and he went on to do TV commercials for the Money Store and the Florida State Lottery, among others.

Later, after the Carter family relocated to Florida, Nick started to make a name for himself in the local entertainment business. His first breaks included being cast as the lead in a school production of "The Phantom Of The Opera" and being picked to perform in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' halftime shows for two seasons. At age 12, Nick took top honors on the 1992 New Original Amateur Houw, and he went on to do TV commercials for the Money Store and the Florida State Lottery, among others.
When he was 15, Nick met AJ McLean and Howie Dorough at a casting call for new calbe TV series to air on Nickelodeon. The three young men did some harmonizing while killing time in the waiting room, and the rest, as they say, is history. They decided to work on forming a musical group, and Nick even turned down a job at Disney to pursue his dream.
With his tousled blond hair and blue eyes, Nick gets the loudest shrieks at Backstreet Boys shows, but he says the group's success matters most. In his free time, Nick enjoys scuba diving (he's a licensed diver), drawing, boating and playing football.

AJ has said that his musical influences lean toward R&B and Motown-style grooves, from Stevie Wonder to Peabo Bryson, to The Temptations. AJ has also been known to listen to gospel artists such as Take 6, a trait he shares with fellow Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell.
In his free time, AJ enjoys cartooning, shopping, writing poetry, shooting pool and hoops, and being a puppetter, which undoubtedly endears him to the Backstreet Boys' youngest fans! He also is well known for going to McDonald's while on tour, because burgers and fries are his favorite food.

At 19, Nickolas Gene Carter is the youngest member of the Backstreet Boys. Born in Jamestown, N.Y., on January 28, 1980, to proud parents Jane and Robert Carter, Nick has been considered a "show stopper" for almost all of his short life. And what more would you except from someone born in the same hospital as legendary comedic star Lucille Ball?
