Frequently Asked Questions

#1
What do I feed my Piggy?

Your pig should have a well balnced diet that should consist of both dry food, vegies and fruit. It is probably better if you purchase a 'Guinea Pig and Rabbit Mix' rather than straight pellets. The reason being, the mix provides more variety than just plain pellets. This mix can be purchased from any pet shop or wholesaler.
Your pig should be fed fresh vegies and/or fruit everyday. But don't fret if you happen to miss a day! Your piggy will be fine.
Fresh water should always be at hand and the pig should be provided with grass around every 2nd to 3rd day. Grass should be constantly fed as it provides Vitamin C and your pigs body does not provide this vitamin.

How should I house my Pig?
I house my pigs in a stable in what is called a level cage - a cavary. But that is only because I have a stable on my property and I have quite a population of pigs.
If you have a shed or such at hand then this is ideal as it provides a warm and sheltered 'house' for the pig. If you do not have a shed or stable then the laundry is fine as well.
If you have 1,2 or 3 pigs and they are all female then they can be kept in the one hutch - if it is of reasonably large size. It is a good idea to keep 3 pigs as a maximum per cage. This hutch/s can be kept - it is a better idea if they are kept - in a shed or stable or in the laundry or something like so.
If it is not possible to keep your pig in a small sheltered place or the laundry then under a verandah should be fine but the cage should be placed so it will not be affected by draughts
Hay, lucern hay, sawdust or shredded paper should be provided (thickly) as a bedding so the pig/s will be kept warm. If you have a question you would like answered and posted in this section please e mail me or sign my guest book about it!
Well bye for now!
