VH1’S DIVAS LIVE 99’ As the show opened Tina Turner walked on-stage and sang her hit “Simply the best.” The camera mostly concentrated on her amazing legs. The audience watched in amazement as she danced and sang her heart out. Cher called her the only true diva on-stage. Elton John appeared a while later and did a duet with Tina Turner. Elton John played his piano and sang a long with her. A bit later Cher came along the ride with Elton John and Tina Turner. Cher didn't look a bit nervous, although she hadn't performed live for more than 8 years. Cher came back on-stage by herself and performed her hit “If I could turn back time.” She danced on-stage and sang amazingly. She performed her amazing dance hit “Believe.” When she performed that song everybody started dancing and clapping a long. A bit later Elton John came a long with Leann Rimes singing “Written in the stars” from the Aida soundtrack. Leann Rimes sang with such emotion and Elton John seemed to be having fun. After singing that song Leann Rimes sang her amazing hit “How do I live.” She sang with a lot of emotion, but didn't move around much. After Leann Rimes left the stage Elton John sang some other songs. Finally, Brandy came on-stage and sang her amazing hit “Have you ever.” Her silver looking dress caught a lot of attention. She also sang her recent song with a music video “Almost doesn't count.” Brandy also started singing “Everything I do, I do it for you” and that's when country singer Faith Hill came a long and sang with her. A while later Brandy left and Faith Hill sang her chart-topping “This Kiss.” She danced around and sang with a lot of excitement. Then Whitney Houston came on-stage and sang a song from her latest album. After Whitney Houston sang a song, Mary J. Blige came along and did a duet with her. They sang amazingly and it was surely a great duet. Both of them sang their hearts out. Whitney Houston also did a duet with on of the guys of Naughty by nature. The duet was amazing and hip. Whitney Houston finally performed the song everybody wanted to hear her sing “I will always love you.” She sang her heart out and the audience stood up and applauded in amazement. Whitney Houston and Chaka Khan started singing “I am every woman” and before you knew it most of the divas, including Faith Hill, Brandy, and Mary J. Blige, were back on-stage singing with them. It was a good way to end the show. The show was a little bit better than last year. One bad thing about it was that amazing women like Chaka Khan and Mary J. Blige didn't get to do a solo. Out of all those divas this year, Tina Turner stole the show. Last year Aretha Franklin had stolen the show. Let's hope Divas 2000 will be better, next year. Review by Roberto Carlos Martinez
