MY PURE BLOOD

                                     Chapter 2

Maria and my mother stood up while I just sat on my knees crying.  “We must go now before your
father comes,” said Maria.  I sat up and all three of us started walking slowly through the trees.
Now we could see the house and the window was still open.  My mother slowly crawled through
the window.  Just as she got in Maria also started crawling through.  At that moment we heard the
doorknob turn.  Maria quickly crawled through and I bent down on the grass.  “Where's Penelope,”
screamed my father.  His voice was deep and husky.  He made goose bumps run down my spine.
At that moment everything went quiet.  I could hear my heart beat faster and faster.  Finally Maria
said, “She is in the bathroom right now.”  My father asked “Why is the window open?”  My mother
responded, “We just wanted some fresh air.”  Father said, “Well, tell Penelope to come to my room to have
a serious conversation.”
About a minute later Maria told me to come in.  I was sweating as I quickly crawled through the
window.  Maria said, “Good thing he didn't look in the crib for the baby.”  My mother and I walked out the
door and left Maria in the room.
Mother walked me to my Father's room. She left me at the door.  I cautiously walked in.  I looked
at my Father sitting in a huge wooden chair.  His curly blond hair was uncombed.  He looked angry.  The
look on his face scared me.  He looked angry.  He said, “I have ordered somebody to take your daughter
tonight down to the river and burn her.”  I was disgusted at his words.  It felt like he had stabbed me in my
heart with a knife and then as if he had stomped on it.  I didn't speak for about a minute. I had to think of
something.  Father just looked at me.
I said, “I saved you the trouble Father.”  “A couple of minutes ago I drowned the baby in the
river.”  “After drowning her I let her go down the river and I don't think anybody will find her body.”
My father's eyes widened with excitement and said, “Excellent, I am so proud of you.”  “It's
amazing to see how you have agreed not to keep the child of a servant.” “It's moments like these that make
me proud of having a daughter.”  “I will tell Walter to look for the body in the river.”
I screamed, “Don't be so foolish, the body was probably eaten by fish, or what was left of it!” “All
you will find is bones.”
Father looked at me angrily, but shocked and said, “You're right.”

                                Chapter 3

Twenty-two years went by.  Penelope never heard of her daughter again.  There had been no news
of a baby found in the river, with a basket.  Eventually she gave up hope and had a prearranged marriage
with the son of the richest man in the village.  She thought it was wrong, but after getting married she grew
to love him.  They had a son and he was born blind.  Doctors told her there was nothing they could do
about him.  Penelope now lives in a huge mansion with her husband and 18 year-old son, Priam.
“Why are you so sad,” asked Diana.
I looked at her and said, “Sometimes you amaze me, you are just like your mother.”  “She served
our family for many years and now you, her daughter, is serving us.”  “Sometimes I think you are a
miracle.”
Diana responded, “My mother Maria died 5 years ago, as you know, but I feel as if she is with
me.”  “Your mother is still alive and I wish my mother was also.”
I stared at her and said, “I am just sad, because my father is dead and my mother is lonely.”
“Another thing is making me sad, but it's a secret between me, my mother, and your mother, who has taken
it to her grave.”
“Oh, I understand,” said Diana. “I have to keep working too.
“Yes, but it's we have to go to work,” I said.  “We have to get things ready for Priam’s birthday.”
“Please tell Sean to get the car and take us to the bakery.”  “After that please get Priam from his room and
tell Sean to help you get him in the car.”
I looked at my son sitting beside me.  He looked so helpless, but I was getting used to it.  I wish he could have
my eyes and see the world.  As I looked at him he turned around and said, “Mother, why are you taking me to get the
cake?”  I said, “It's your birthday and I am also taking you to buy your presents.”  Sean asked me, “Do you want me to
go with you inside to get the cake Mrs. Wilson.”  I said, “No, I will get somebody from the bakery.” “They are always
willing to lend a helping hand.”  I looked to the side window and just as I looked I saw this beautiful girl carrying a
basket.  On her neck I could see a necklace.  It had a huge emerald on it. It was the one I had given to my daughter.  I
screamed,” Sean stop!”  Sean looked at me and stopped.  I said, “Wait for me, I need to go talk to that girl selling
cookies.”
I stepped out of the car and walked towards the girl.  She looked at me frightened.  She had green eyes, but a
bandana over her hair.  I looked at her and asked, “Where did you get that necklace?”  She looked at and her eyes
widened.  She didn't say a word.  I screamed, “Where did you get that necklace!”  She started crying and said, “Faith
gave it to me, she said she got it when she found me.”  I looked at her and slowly slipped the bandana off her head.  She
had this beautiful red hair.  Diana walked close to me and said, “She looks like you.”
