MY PURE BLOOD
                                        By Roberto Carlos Martinez
Chapter 4

My heart started beating faster and faster.  It seemed as if it was going to jump out of my chest, of
happiness.  The girl just looked at me, frightened.
“Where do you live,” I asked.  Here eyes were watery and she said, “About 15 minutes from here,
near the fields.”  “It's the last hut near the river.”  I stared at her.  She was wearing a red dress. It almost
look like a pair of pajamas.  Her green eyes looked so beautiful.  I said, “oh, ok.”  “How many cookies do
you have?”  She looked at me and said, “about 100.”  I smiled and said, “I will take them all.”  She looked
at me and said, “Oh, thank you so much.”  Her eyes sparkled as I gave her the money.  Sean brought a bag
from the car and put the cookies in there.  I looked at her and asked, “What's your name?”  She grabbed her
basket and said, “ My name is Aaliyah.”  I smiled and said, “What a beautiful name.”  “Do you need a ride
home?”  She smiled and said, “Oh, no that's too much to ask.”  “Just buying my cookies is enough.”
Finally, I convinced her because she knew I wouldn't give up.  Sean grabbed her hand and helped
her get in the car.  Aaliyah shook hands with Priam.  They stood there shaking hands for a moment.  It
seemed as if Priam didn't want to let go of her hand.  So much was going through my mind.  She had to be
my daughter after all these years, the red hair and green eyes.
Now we could see the small hut.  It was made out of wood and hay.  There was an old lady
standing at the door.  She looked amazed.  She had this amazing long gray hair going down to her knees.
She had probably just combed it.  I said, “Good bye Aaliyah take care of yourself.”  “It was a pleasure to
meet you.”  “Thank you for the ride,” said Aaliyah.  I couldn't talk to the lady right now.  Aaliyah would
hate me if I told her I was her mother or if she heard us talk about it.  Only when that lady is alone will I
talk to her.
Chapter 5

The next day I went to the hut once more.  The door was closed.  I noticed the door was made out
of this dark brown wood.  I knocked 3 times.  Finally, the lady opened the door and she stood there for a
minute looking at me.  I said, “Good morning.”  She said, “Good morning….. come in.”  I slowly walked
in.  There was a dusty smell in the air.  I could see a plastic sheet hanging on a rope.  It was probably
covering their beds.  I looked to my right and saw a small wooden table and 3 wooden chairs.  They were
black and looked pretty old and in bad condition.  I noticed one of the chairs had a broken leg, but it looked
lie it had been hammered together.  I said, “Hi, my name is Penelope Wilson.”  She shook my hand and
said, “So what brings a rich woman like you hear?”  I looked at her beautiful gray hair and the white dress
she was wearing.  I said, “It's about Aaliyah.”  Her eyes turned watery and she said, “A..a..Aaliyah?”  I
said, “Yes, Faith.”  She started crying and she screamed, “You are not taking her away from me!”
I couldn't believe it, she was denying me my daughter.  I said, “She is my daughter!”  She looked at
me angrily and screamed, “She is more my daughter than yours!”  “I found her in the river and saved her
life!”  “I could have left her there to die, like you!”  These words were like knives through my heart.  Tears
started running down my eyes.  She walked towards where the big plastic sheet was and went in there to get
something.  From there she got a wallet.  She handed it to me and said, “Here is your dirty money, we
never needed your dirty money.”  I looked in and there was all the money.  She said, “Take it and never
come back!”  “Aaliyah and I don't need anything from you, we are just fine the way we live!”
