Green Day started as a local group in the 80's playing at small clubs in California. Their original name was "Sweet Children". They recorded 2 albums under the "Lookout Records" label--the albums names are "1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours" & "Kerplunk". the Slappy Hours LP was done with the drummer by the name of John, The rest of albums to date are done with Tre Cool, who's real name is Frank Edwin Wright.

After the 2 albums at "Lookout" Green Day went to Reprise Records were they became very popular with thier release of "Dookie". To follow the 1994 release of "Dookie", Green Day released "Insomniac" & "Nimrod".

So far "Dookie" has been the most popular album of all 5.

Billie Joe is also in a group called "Pinhead Gunpowder" That group has 3 albums to date, and is still on "Lookout Records" . The latest album was released in 1997 and was recorded in the summer of 1996. The first album of "Pinhead Gunpowder" is titled "Jump Salty", After that was "Carry The Banner", And the latest one is "Goodbye, Elliston Avenue".

Billie Joe is the only member of Green Day still married. Billie Joe has a son, and Mike has a daughter. Before Green Day, Mike was a short order cook, and he used to skate board as a kid, because he had to have surgery on his wrist from an old skateboarding accident.

On an interview with MTV Green Day said they almost broke up after "1,039 Smoothed Out..." Because the drummer had to leave. But they found Tre and look now....

The first song Billie Joe ever wrote was "Why Do You Want Him" he wrote it at age 15 (or younger, maybe 12). "Dominated Love Slave" and "All By Myself" are written and performed by Tre. also, bassist Mike Dirnt wrote "Eminius Sleepus" and along with Billie Joe, wrote "Panic Song"

Green Day said they do not wanna be labeled as a punk band, but more of a "pop" band. They said the songs they write are short little pop songs as opposed to hardcore punk.

They also said they do not like todays music such as techno. They said , "If you look at, we can play all our songs on acoustic guitars and still sound good, but you cant do that with techno." And also when asked if they were ready to quit, Billie Joe answered he still has a point to prove and until he he is flabby and old he wont quit, he wont quit till he settles and at the moment he's off---This simply means, expect alot more out of them.
