Scoop (2006)

In theaters July 28, 2006

July 17, 2006: The soundtrack for Scoop comes out in about a week, and looks quite good. Here's some info from the press release:

"Mr. Allen reports that he chose the music based on "his instincts about what would work in the film." Capturing the playful spirit of the film, the soundtrack's lush orchestrations and quick tempo complement the mysterious motif of the story. The soundtrack consists almost entirely of beautiful classical music by Tchaikovsky, Grieg and Johann Strauss - a unique assemblage for any soundtrack, especially one from a movie not entirely about classical music itself. These timeless melodies from The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, and Peer Gynt will be recognized with pleasure by every listener.

Focus Features film opens Scoop in limited release on July 28th."

June 2, 2006: The official trailer for Scoop was released today and it appears they are definitely playing up the Match Point angle - even though this seems to be an entirely different sort of film. Still, the trailer leaves a lot more questions than it answers...namely, will this be a Manhattan Murder Mystery type of light-hearted romp, or a Curse of the Jade Scorpion type failure? Here's to hoping for the former.

May 28, 2006: An official site has been listed, though not yet set up, through Focus Features and an "official" plot synopsis is now available for the film:

"A contemporary comedy centering around a student journalist for a college paper visiting friends in London who happens upon the scoop of a lifetime. Along the investigative trail, she finds magic, murder, mystery--and perhaps love, with a British aristocrat."

May 21, 2006: It was recently announced that Woody Allen's Scoop will arrive in American theaters on July 28, 2006.

April 18, 2006: A few more Scoop details are slowly starting to emerge. It appears the film wrapped a while ago and will be released at some point this summer through Focus Features. More word on this as it becomes clearer...

February 13, 2006: A couple of new pictures have leaked out from the set...you can check them all out here.

November 2005: "Woody Allen's films are usually shrouded in secrecy pretty much until they're released. Thanks to Screen Daily, though, we now know the title and plot of the film he's currently filming in the UK which marks the second time he's working with Scarlett Johansson. The title is SCOOP and Johansson is playing an American journalism student who's investigating a series of murders when she falls in love with a wily Englishman (Hugh Jackman). Ian McShane is playing a man who helps Johansson in her investigation and Allen is playing a man posing as Johansson's father...The film is expected to be in theaters summer 2006."
