R.I.P.


Harry Chapin


Date of Birth: December 7, 1942
Date of Death: July 16, 1981

Cause of Death: Died in an auto accident whilst driving along the Long Island expressway, near Jericho, New York.   His Volkswagen Rabbit was struck by a long-bed truck whilst en-route to a benefit gig in New York City.   The coroner ruled he died from injuries resulting from the accident, although he also had a heart attack.  It is not known whether the heart attack was before or after the collision.

Final Resting Place: Huntington Rural Cemetery, Huntington, New York.


Claim to Fame: Best known for his hits 'Taxi' and  'Cats in the Cradle'.   Harry organized and appeared in many benefit concerts for causes, including a campaign against world hunger, environmental and consumer issues and the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.  At one time, more than half of his concerts were benefits.
