Backstreet Boys Concert Review!!

July 31st, 1999. Backstreet Boys concert in Oslo Spectrum, Norway!
My friend, Merete, and I woke up at 9am that morning. We got dressed and went down to get some breakfast. We were staying at a hotel called Spectrum Hotel, not far from Oslo Spectrum. After breakfast we got ready to go out. We went up to the Karl Johan street. We waited outside Backstreet Boys' hotel in case they came out. It was only us 2 and 3-4 other fans outside the hotel at that time. We all waited together. The boys never came, not that I acctually though they would, but more and more fans came and the guys at the hotel had to put up fences. I didn't like that at all, but it was ok, at least I was in the front :)

Acctually, when we came up to the hotel we saw Bubba leaving (the BSB band member who plays the drums). While we stood there with the fence Dennis (keys/guitar) and Lou (bass) went by. They walked right by me, the bad thing was that I didn't say a word even though I wanted to. While we were standing there waiting Tommy (play the keys) went by like 10 times, which was really cool 'cos I just love Tommy. To bad I didn't say anything to him eigther (but I did the night before... he even waved at me then, but didn't walk up to me :( to many people I guess). Guy (guitar) did also walk by during the 6(!!) hours we stood outside the hotel. I finally got Merete with me after a long wait outside the hotel, then we went to McDonald's. We took Big Mac takeaway and went back to our Hotel. We ate the Big Mac while listening to BSB music, and we saw then on the news before be went to the concert Hall. The concert was supposed to star at 7:30 pm. We went in at 7:05 pm, we were standing at the floor so we got pretty good view to the stage. It took some time before the band Star came on stage, the warm up act. Merete and I were ready to see they boys, and it was just a few minutes before they entered the stage. I had a teddybear for Howie that I had to throw up on stage before BSB came on stage, there was so many teddy's... Merete and I was standing at the side were the boys came out, we found out that that was the best place to stand. And we wanted to run around to all concerts of the stage, but we didn't do that... lol...

We also brought with us 2 signs - one big heart that said "Howie & Nick", and a other one that said "Tommy" on one side and "Brian" on the other side. Then the BSB band came on stage. I was yelling for Tommy, but I don't think he hear me :) then the dancers, and -> the Backstreet Boys. Merete and I help up our "Howie & Nick" sign so they could see us. They flew right above us, and guess what - Nick saw us!!! He smiled at us and started to point at us, he also talked to the other boys. I guess he liked the sign so much that he had to tell the other guys about it so they could see it too... I don't know if they all saw it, but I know Brian and Kevin also saw it, but the coolest thing and what really sent me to heaven was when Nick smiled at me.

Becouse of the big heart many people behind us couldn't see anything (like we cared), so we tokk down the sign when the boys started to go round the stage and greet the fans. So the sign lied on the floor during the whole concert. And when Nick came back on our side of the stage, you could see that he was looking for something - our sign. I think he really liked it.. :)

The show was great, they began with the song "Larger Than Life", they were all very hyper and did a perfect show. I had one more sign with me, you know, the one with Tommy on one side and Brian on the other. I held up the side that said "Tommy", when Tommy saw it he looked so happy. He smiled at me, he was so cute, and he also waved at me. He did that so many times during the concert, wow, go figure why I was in heaven!!! During a brake in the show (I don't remember when) Tommy went off stage. He stood right by the stage right in front of me (well, there was 2 people in front of me, but he was like... in front of me .lol:)) Anywayz, he started to walk torward where I was standing and said "Hey!!" and reached out his hand. I was like 'is it me his talking to???', I was totally lost, I didn't know what to do. I looked at him and he looked at me, then I thought 'Man, he is talking to me!!'. I was just about to shake his hand (since that was what he wanted me to when he reached his hand torwards me.. lol..), but then there was so many fans grabbing him that I was to late. I was so sad since I didn't get to touch his hand, but more happened during the show.

They boys had sung a couple of songs when they began with "Quit Playing Games". That is one of my fave songs so I enjoyed myself. Then it was time for the part where they're flying above the audience. I was so excited, Brian was on our side, so I had my "Brian" sign ready so he could see it from up there. He went up and I tried to take pix of him, too bad they got really blury... Then I though I had to hold up the sign. Brian saw it at once (he flew righ over my head, one meter above me..) and it looked like he tried to read everythig I'd written on the sign. There was alot of writing around his name, so I guess he wondered about what it said. But when he saw my sign, he also saw me :) So I was in heaven then too, ¨cos he looked right into my damn eyes!!!!!! But the show wasn't over yet, there was lot's more to come. They sang about 12 more song before they came to "It's Gotta Be You". You've might heard about the part in "It's Gotta" where the boys introduce their dancers and the band? And when they've introdused a dancer she/he dance a little bit to show what they can, and the band play something after beeing introdused. That was one of the coolest parts of the whole show. All the dancers was introdused, and it was time to say "hello" to Tommy! I help my sign up (you know, the Tommy sign), and Brian introdused Tommy. And right before Brian held a towel over Tommys head (so he couldn't see when he was playing), Tommy pointed at me!! Yes, he pointed at me - again, and I could see him saying "This is for you...". Wow, you should seen me, I couldn't belive what I saw you know. He played his part and the boys introdused the rest of the band. I looked at Tommy almost all the time, and help up my sign. And he kept waving at me, and smiling :)

But then the show was over :( But it was the best concert I've been to EVER!!!! I had a blast. Hope to experience more concert's like that.

The End!

Listen to 8,000 fans singing "I Want It That Way" with Brian...
