HURRICANE #1 - "CHAIN REACTION"
(Creation CD Single)
released 25th August
It’s a hit! What, the single? Oh, yeah, sure, that as
well; I was thinking more about the ‘reliable
rumours’ doing the rounds about Alex Lowe’s
physical ‘encounter’ with a certain big mouthed
Mancunian troglodyte in a posh West End nighterie
recently. Not that I’m any kind of advocate of
violence but, hey, isn’t it about time someone
taught that knuckle-dragging mono-browed tosser
a lesson in manners?
Now, where were we? Ah yes, the new single. Not
quite as epic or instant as their chart-busting,
jaw-cracking (ooops) debut ‘Step Into My
World’, ‘Chain Reaction’ sees Hurricane #1
striding ever more purposefully into Big Rock
territory: chunky, flanged guitar riffs splashing
through a bucket of grooves and a baggy beat, with
Alex’s gruff vocals coming on like Tim Burgess
trying to be Phil Lynott. The whole is something
like Oasis and the Charlatans being transported
back to the early 70s and getting stoned with Led
Zep. In a certain light it’s quite an appealing image.
