  I M P O R T A N T N O T E F R O M Q U A L I T Y T A B S:

I did not transcribe this song, therefore I can't be sure whether
it's a 100% correct or not. I don't have the Alanis CD so I can't
listen to it, but I've played the tab and it sounds pretty damn
accurate to me.
I've made no changes to the transcription that change its accuracy
in any way. The only changes I made are that I changed the chord
names so they are relative to the capo. It's much easier to
remember them that way. It sucks when you're playing the song
and it says A and then the chord is exactly like C or something.
I also changed the look of the file a bit so it would fit the
Quality Tabs standard look. I did not change any chords or tab.
Finally, big thanks to Louis Visscher for this great tab and
check out his other Alanis tabs, Head Over Feet and You Oughta Know.

CHORDS: [as transcribed by Jeff Elkins ]
-------
You MUST use a capo on the 4th fret, all chords and chord names
are relative to the capo.

       EADGBE EADGBE
D/F# (2x023x) D (xx0232)
G2 (3x020x) G (320033)
Em (0x00xx) Em (022000)

   or (x32033) C (x32010)
D4 (x54005) |
D* (x54007) These chords are used in the chorus.
         |
These chords are used in the intro, the verses, and the bridge.

This tablature would not have come about without the help of Jeff
Elkins . He transcribed the chord-version
with a capo at the 4th fret. He distinguishes 3 guitars.
I also would like to thank Evan C. Parker for his
initial transcription of this song, just like Shawn Maschino
 and Maarten Klaassen .
My tab is for 1 guitar only. For the other guitar parts, look at
Jeff's tab!
In verse 2, a clean guitar plays the tab, a clean guitar strums the
chords, and a semi-distorted guitar plays a few riffs. I have
incorporated those riffs in the tab, in such away that one guitar can
play both the tab and the riffs.

VERSE 1: [Clean guitar]
--------
   D/F# G2 D/F# Em
An old man, turned 98.
           D/F# G2 D/F# Em
He won the lottery, and died the next day
       D/F# G2 D/F# Em
It's a black fly, in your Chardonnay.
       D/F# G2 D/F# Em
It's a death row pardon, 2 minutes too late.

Isn't it ironic...don't you think?

VERSE 2: [Clean guitar, same chords as Verse 1]
--------
Mr. Play It Safe, was afraid to fly.
He packed his suitcase, and kissed his kids goodbye.
He waited his whole damn life, just to take that flight.
And as the plane crashed down, he thought "well isn't this nice.."
And isn't it ironic.... don't you think?

everything is going right
    Cmaj7
And life has a funny way
               D4 D* D4
of helping you out when you think everything's gone wrong and
Cmaj7
everything blows up in your face

It's meeting the man of my dreams and then meeting his beautiful wife.
And isn't it
