October 2001

How are you faring across the Pond, d? Over here life goes on, but almost in a state of suspended animation, as everyone, from the big Cheese on down, try to maintain a demeanor of fortitude and resolve, even when it's mostly just a facade. I was on assignment on September 11th in downtown DC when, as my clients and I entered a Federal building, we heard a security guard there yelling, "it's almost like World War III," those words still ring in my ears and evoke feelings of PTSS at unpredictable times.

All the news stories and hysteric talk of how to protect ourselves against biological weapons provides no relief. At this point, am resigned to whatever may come, because, as my Mum pointed out, "we only die once." There are slow deaths, though, aren't there, d? Where we feel as though the life force is dissipating deep down within us? It feels mostly like an organic meltdown, though, because even at this moment, the soul sings.
