The child weighed in at 7 pounds and was delivered at 7:48 p.m. London time. The 23-year-old Spice Girl was accompanied by fiance David Beckham during the labor, and a spokesman for Portland Hospital says that both mother and child are resting and doing well.

Shortly after the birth, Beckham, who plays soccer for Manchester United, addressed the media that had assembled outside the hospital.

"I was there for the birth," Beckham said, "it was an amazing experience. We are both overjoyed. Victoria is fantastic."

When asked if he thought the child would follow in his father's footsteps on the soccer field, Beckham replied that he didn't know, but that Brooklyn had "his dad's legs."

A hospital representative also shed a little light regarding the newborn's name, explaining that Adams first discovered she was pregnant while the Spice Girls were on tour in New York last summer. Joseph is apparently a family name, as it is both David's middle name and his Grandfather's proper name.

The happy event comes two weeks after fellow Spice Girl Melanie Brown gave birth to her daughter, Phoenix Chi, who was also born in the same hospital.

Don't forget, David and Victoria's wedding is set for this summer!
