Backstreet Do Kentucky Derby

The 126th Running of the Kentucky Derby was held on Saturday, May 7. The Barnstable-Brown Gala was held, having a star-studded guest list including Backstreet Boys Kevin Richardson, Brian Littrell (both from Kentucky) and Howie Dorough. Other musicians who attended the party were Emmylou Harris, Chris Isaak, John Michael Montgomery and George Strait. Footage from the Kentucky Derby will most likely be shown on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno sometime this week, which the Backstreet Boys may appear on.

"Show Me The Meaning" On General Hospital?

On Tuesday, May 2nd's edition of the ABC soap opera, General Hospital, BSB's "Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely" was played near the end of the show, showing everybody's loneliness and what was on their minds.

AJ Not Engaged

In a recent issue of the Orlando Sentinal, an Orlando newspaper, AJ McLean's mother, Denise, confirms that AJ is not engaged to his longtime girlfriend, actress-singer Amanda Latona. There were also rumors going around about Amanda being pregnant, these rumors are also not true. The Boys are currently in the Bahamas working on their next album.

Vote For Brian

Vote For Brian Teen People's 25 Hottest Stars Under 25 special will be airing Friday, May 26th. Meanwhile, voting can be done at ABC.Com, voting closes on May 11th. Brian is named one of the hottest stars under 25, you can make him the hottest of them all by voting here. The special will be hosted by N Sync's Justin Timberlake. Other stars under 25 who are featured are Freddie Prinze Jr., Jessica Simpson, Sisqo, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera.

"The One" To Debut In Canada

For any Canadians who would like to know when they can catch "The One" on their local music stations, tune into MuchMusic on Thursday, May 4th. MuchMusic, as well as MTV in the US will be premiering the video. On the Hit List (YTV), the video will debut May 12th due to a re-run of this week's (week of May 1st) show. MuchMusic has a little peek at the video in their New Spins.

"The One" Pushed Back

The premiere of the Backstreet Boys' latest video from their sophmore album, "Millennium," will premiere on Thursday, May 4th, instead of the original date, May 1st. The video will premiere on MTV's Total Request Live at 3pm ET.

Nick Named As People's Most Beautiful

People Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People issue will be out on Friday (April 28). Nick Carter was named as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in 2000. Other Beautiful People include Julia roberts, Hilary Swank, Faith Hill, Ricky Martin, Shania Twain, and Neve Campbell.

Howie To Do Duet With Sister

According to Launch.Com, Howie and his sister, Pollyanna, who is working on an album right now, will release a single titled "Fly To Heaven" to benefit the Lupus Foundation. "Me and my sister, we recorded a song that she wrote about my sister Caroline, who passed away a year-and-a-half ago from Lupus." Howie and Pollyanna would hopefully like to see the song as a single, getting all the proceeds to be donated to the Lupus Foundation to raise money for awareness and the disease. Caroline Dorough-Cochran, Howie's sister, died in 1998. Howie has been collaborating on songwriting and producing with Pollyanna on the project for the past year. They currently have a four-track EP that is not yet widely available. The collection features "Fly To Haven," "Andale Mi Corazon," "Take Me Away," and "Don't Wanna Live My Life Without You." Carter Family Death

According to The Carter Connection, the Carter family's offical site, Great Grandma Theresa Phillips Spauling passed away quietly at breakfast on the morning of Thursday, April 13, 2000, at 8:25am. She was with her friends when she died, and a wonderful, kind, gentle soul this women was with friends, family, and all people alike. Everyone will miss her greatly. Backstreet Boys Birthday

On April 20th, the Backstreet Boys turn 7 years old. It was on April 20, 1993, that Brian came into the group and completed who the Backstreet Boys were.

More Leslie Carter News

MTV has some news on 13 year old Leslie Carter, who is younger sister of Nick and Aaron Carter. She will be following in her big brother's footsteps recording her debut album due out sometime this year. There are many talented writers and producers who will be taking part on this album, including Backstreet Boys' guitarist Bill Chapin, Brad Young and Dow Brian who worked on LFO's hit single "Summer Girls," as well as Diane Warren, who has written for Celine Dion, Aerosmith, and most recently, N Sync. "I Want To Hear It From You" is Leslie's first single, making it's debut June 6, which is also her 14th birthday.

Tom Jones A Fan Of BSB

According to Jam! Music, Tom Jones, 59, is a fan of the Backstreet Boys. "I've got both their albums and I would love to cover one of their songs," Tom Jones told TV Guide's April 15 issue. Tom Jones is responsible for such hits like "It's Not Usual" and "What's New Pussycat?" He would like to know how the Backstreet Boys get their "incredible sound." Tom Jones was considered a sex symbol in the 1960's and 70's. He had similar devoted female fans during his time of super stardom.

Howie To Star As Alien

More acting credits can be added onto Howie Dorough's filmography. Howie is set to guest star on the season finale of the WB's sci-fi drama, "Roswell." Howie willl play an alien who comes to town after receiving telepathic messages. If the show is picked up for another season, Howie may return as a recurring role next year. This is not the first acting oppurtunity for Howie, he starred on Ron Howard's 1989 Steve Martin comedy, "Parenthood." Howie is also set to star in an upcoming movie called "Bloom," which is in the works of casting people.

Leslie Carter To Make Debut Soon

Yet another Carter sibling will be entering the music business. On June 6, 2000 (Leslie's birthday), Leslie will be releasing her debut single, "I Want To Hear It From You." Some of you may have heard Leslie sing already, she sang at some of Aaron's concerts last year. Feedback from the fans say she is talented and has a wonderful voice. Angel Carter is supposedly the only Carter sibling not wanting to get into show business. BJ Carter is studying acting at the moment.

Boys To Launch Webcast In June

In an recent newsletter from the Backstreet Boys Official Mailing List, it revealed that on June 24, 2000, the Backstreet Boys will launch their animated webisodes on the Internet with a live webcast performance.

Christina Joins BSB

Diva Christina Aguilera will be the only female to join the Backstreet Boys, D'Angelo, Enrique Iglesias, Sting, and Tom Jones during a taping of a VH1 special this month on April 11th. The special will be taped at Madison Square Garden and will air on April 18 on VH1.

Howie Surprises Fans

On the first day of AJ's Johnny No-Name tour, AJ said that he had a surprise near the end of the show. Fellow band member Howie came out and surprised all the fans. Not only that, Howie also sang backup vocals to one of Johnny's songs.

Aaron Carter's Second Album

Aaron Carter fans can expect Aaron's second album sometime in June of 2000. Ulthough the date is unsure of, Zomba, Aaron's record company, says that it will be most likely in June of 2000. If not, you should expect it in the summer sometime. As for a single, it may possibly come out in April sometime.

Tommy Smith, of the Backstreet Boys Band has updated his website. He confirms that AJ is NOT engaged. Although AJ and his significant other are very close, and "hopes that she will turn out to be the one that shares his life with, he feels that they are both too young to make a decisions to get married right now. And they have no plans to do so in the immediate future." Although AJ would like to settle down and have kids at one point or another, but not right now. Speaking of AJ, Tommy reports that Johnny No-Name is planning a European tour to kick off in coming months. The Band has two new band members for the Johnny No-Name tour. Their new drummer, Scott Hoffman, and Matt Hagar singing background vocals. Tommy also said that he will be playing at Brian's wedding, a song that Brian and him wrote.

Backstreet Not Splitting Up

There have been plenty of rumors going around once again that the Backstreet Boys are breaking up. These rumors were circulated by the MTV Asia site. To confirm this, the Backstreet Boys are NOT breaking up. Even though Brian and Kevin are engaged, and AJ is doing his solo tour as alter-ego Johnny No-Name, this doesn't mean that the Boys are splitting up. The Boys are very well together at this point and have no intentions on splitting up. MTV Asia posted this news as an April Fool's Day prank.

AJ's Bad Boy

AJ McLean recalls the Garth Brooks/Chris Gaines split personality, "I'm a totally different person," AJ said. Although Rolling Stone says that AJ's alter-ego, Johnny No-Name, didn't turn into that totally different person. He sang ballads and a few Backstreet Boys B-Side tunes. AJ also had to censor Method of Mayhem's "Get Naked" song, and found himself abbreviating some of the words for AJ's preteen audience. On his first night solo, AJ wore a brown cowboy hat and trench coat. He was handcuffed and escorted by a security guard wearing a shirt saying "Police" which was apart of Johnny No-Name's mystique, only allowed to perform when on probation. Johnny No-Name is a very odd person. He is supposed to be a British man from Nashville, Tennessee. Turning into "Backstreet Mode" for the night, he sang "If You Only Knew What I Knew," which is a B-side song featured on the "Larger Than Life" single. He also sang "Hey Mr. DJ (Keep Playing That Song)" and a small part of "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)." AJ also sang a little rendition of "Bad To The Bone" which is a song playing off AJ's nickname, Bone.

AJ Lauches Tour

AJ McLean kicked off his solo tour as alter-ego, Johnny No-Name on Monday, March 27. AJ had a British accent and handcuffs for his solo show, singing covers from Rage Against The Machine, Stone Temple Pilots, Tonic, and Brian McKnight. He even threw in a coupel of Backstreet Boys' songs. "There's lots of screaming, lots of craziness, you know," AJ said during an interview with MTV's Chris Connelly. AJ talked about the amount of underwear he gets during a Johnny No-Name concert. "I actually get more panites than Backstreet gets." AJ also added that Johnny No-Name would like to release an album and looking for a producer. AJ's alter-ego also added that he has been talking to Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit about working together.

BSB Torture Canadian College Students

Students at the University of Toronto are being "tortured" by campus police with the music of the Backstreet Boys and other pop songs in an attempt to end a six-day-old sit-in at the president's office.

The student group "Students Against Sweatshops" has been protesting inside vacationing university president Robert Prichard's office, demanding a campus-wide ban of the sale of clothing made in Third World sweatshops. Three University of Toronto policemen are on constant guard of the remaining eight students holed up in the office. Campus police have been pumping pop songs into the office during the day and heavy metal throughout the night.

"Despite the music playing all night, we're doing alright," said SAS volunteer Sonia Singh, as quoted by the University's Varsity Online news. "The ear-plugs work pretty well."

Similar tactics were used on a larger scale by the U.S military in 1989 in an attempt to capture Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega, who was hiding out in a building in downtown Panama City, Panama.

Bucs Vs. Boys Charity Basketball Game

On Sunday, March 26th the hoops at the USF Sun Dome are going to be hot as Tampa Bay Buccaneers players take the court verses Backstreet Boys Nick Carter and Brian Littrell in the "The Bucs vs. The Boys" charity basketball game. Bucs players scheduled to appear include Brad Culpepper, Shaun King, Martin Gramatica, Mark Royals and Warren Sapp. 93-3 FLZ Morning Show gurus, MJ & BJ, along with Dj’s Kane, Jomama Johnson and others will heat up the court in an effort to benefit St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation.

AJ McLean's mother, Denise McLean, told MTV News that AJ's track list for his upcoming "Johnny No-Name" tour kicking off at the end of March, will consist of material ranging from the Stone Temple Pilots and Eminem, also covering Brian McKnight's #1 hit "Back At One", as well as AJ's own version of "If You Knew What I Knew" which is featured on the Backstreet Boys' "Larger Than Life" single. As many of you know, AJ performed as "Johnny Suede" back in January at the Hard Rock Cafe in Orlando, but rest assure, AJ will be not be leaving BSB for a solo career. He is very committed to the Backstreet Boys. AJ will have the Backstreet Boys Band with him on his solo tour. Another opening act for AJ's solo tour will be up and coming girl group Nobody's Angel.

BSB Win Juno Award

The Backstreet Boys won Best Selling Album (Foreign and Domestic). The Boys brought out some of the largest screams in the arena from the audience. When the Boys' name was called up for Best Selling Album, AJ was so happy he did a cart-wheel onstage before getting his award.

Backstreet Boys To Do Howard Stern Show

AJ McLean has confirmed that the Backstreet Boys will be on the Howard Stern radio show on April 11. AJ confirmed their appearance on the radio show last night at the Juno Awards.

"The One" Has Been Chosen

MTV recently took a poll on which song should be the Backstreet Boys' next single. Fans got to choose from "Don't Want You Back", "The One", and "It's Gotta Be You". The fans picked "The One," which was just announced on MTV. "The One" got 37% of the votes, with "Don't Want You Back" trailing right behind it with 36%. "It's Gotta Be You" got 27%.

Much Music's Perfect Fan Contest

Much Music will be hosting a "Perfect Fan" contest. One lucky viewer will be selected to fly to Hamilton, Ontario and go onstage and be serenaded by the Backstreet Boys at their March 14th concert. After selecting finalists from phone entries, the winner will be selected following several elimination rounds of BSB trivia questions. The contest will be airing on MuchMusic on Sunday, March 12th at 6pm and 6am ET.
