Too Good To Be True
"AAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUGGGHHHHH,I LOVE YOU KEVIN!!!!!", screamed Maddie. It was her first Backstreet Boys concert, and the guys had just come on stage. They jumped into a number and Maddie looked over at her friend Clarrissa, who looked as though she might pass out. Maddie felt a little queasy herself. How would she have ever thought she'd be sitting here, standing rather, in the third row, just a few feet away from the best group ever? She certainly never had. She jumped up and down, waving her glow stick in the air. What a night, what a terrific night, she thought. Clarrissa shook her violently as AJ came over to the front of the stage and waved at the shrieking crowd. Maddie smiled so big she thought her face might fall off. To think, just last week...they'd won the tickets.
It happened the night Clarrissa came over to Maddie's house. They were totally bumming because they'd been next in line to get tickets to the concert when the woman said in a sarcastically sympathetic voice, "Ooh, sorry. All out. Guess you'll just have to swoon over posters until next time!". Clarrissa had made a wild jump at the box office, beating on the glass really hard. They ended up being escorted away by the police. Quite an embarrassing act. Anyway, there they were sitting in Maddie's room, listening to the radio when they heard the DJ say the words they'd never forget, "To all you swooning BSB fans,I've got here by my side 2 tickets to the upcoming concert in town Friday night. I just need to you to answer one bit of trivia and be caller number ten and they're yours." He laughed annoyingly and Clarrissa made a mad leap to the phone, dialing the number quickly. "Augh,of all the lousy luck! BUSY SIGNAL!!!". She slammed down the phone and pouted. Maddie attempted again. Another busy signal. They hung their heads and felt sorry for themselves. On the radio was the lucky girl who'd been caller 10. "Hi caller, what's your name?", said the DJ. "Like we care!", snapped Clarrissa. Maddie knew she'd better not say anything, for fear of getting her head bitten off. The caller said excitedly, "Oh,my gosh! I got through! My name is Gina!". Maddie stopped for a second. That was...no, couldn't be! "OK Gina, I need you to answer this simple question and you have got yourself a couple of BSB tix! What is Kevin Richardson's middle name?" Clarrissa grabbed the radio and shook it, screaming, "SCOTT,SCOTT,SCOTT,YOU MORON!!!" Maddie heard her mother call from downstairs. "Hold on", she told her red-faced friend. She ran dpwnstairs and found her mom on the phone. "Honey, I need to know a young man named Kevin's middle name." Maddie's eyes grew wide and her mouthdropped open. "Oh, mom! It's Scott, his middle name is Scott!!" Her mom nodded and told the DJ. "Congradulations, you've won 3rd row tickets to the biggest concert this year! Who's the radio station who made you a winner?". Her mom jumped up and down, yelling, 103.7!! Maddie stood for a second, absolutely amazed. "Mom, did you just do what I think you did?" Her mother smiled and answered smittenly, "If you think I just won you and Clarrisa Backstreet Guys tickets, then you certainly are correct." Clarrissa raced downstairs and jumped into Maddie's mom's arms. "Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou!" She slapped Maddie's hand and began to run off, Maddie saying, "By the way, mom, its Backstreet Boys. Not Guys."
And now, here they were at the concert of their lives. It was an awesome show, full of dancing and singing and drop-dead gorgeous guys sweating. Maddie walked up to what she thought was the exit door at the end of the concert. She felt like she was flaoting. "Excuse me, we've been looking all over for you!" She paused and looked up. A tall security guard was holding her arm. "Do I know you?", she asked slowly. "Yeah, you're the manager's niece. We gotta leave soon, the guys are getting mobbed." Before she could say anything, she was swept away, being dragged through hundreds of screaming fans. They grabbed her and yelled, hoping to get in. She was pulled up through the tour bus door and they immediately they drove away. Am I really here? Is this happening? The manager's niece? What are the talking about?, she thought in awe. Suddenly, there in front of her stood Kevin, her favorite of the Boys. She got wide-eyed and nearly fainted. He punched her shoulder and said, "Hey, squirt, glad to have you on board". She looked at her arm as he walked toward the back. Did he just touch her? She swore she'd never wash again. She inched her way back. The smell of sweat filled the air. There, right in front of her eyes, were 4 sweaty young men. The BSB. "Hey, you must be her!", said an enthusiastic Howie. He winked. "How'd you like the concert?", asked AJ. She was thrilled to be spoken to, yet speechless. "Um, it was great! You guys are awesome!". They smiled and wiped their foreheads. "Tough work to dance all night.", said Nick. Nick, the guy that Clarrissa would really wanted to meet. "I bet, you guys sure do work well under heat." They laughed. Brian nudged her and offered her a soda. He said, "So, you need to get up." Huh? she thought. Kevin spoke up, "Yeah, honey, are you ok?". What are they saying? "Did you hit your head, Maddie?", said AJ."What are y'all talking about?", she asked out loud. She closed her eys and when she opened them she was lying on a sticky pavement floor with a paramedic in front of her and her mom cupping her head. "Huh...wha-what happened?". Clarrissa looked at her hard and replied, We were leaving and I lost you. I think you passed out because Kevin shook your hand. Then you never woke up, so the ambulance came. Maddie blinked and sighed. DARN, so close that time!
