Date: 06-18-91 Sources: v. 1: DAT(?) > CDR(6) v. 2: ANA(M) > DAT(?) > CDR(8) Venue: "The Catalyst" Santa Cruz, CA Time: v. 1: 44:03 v. 2: 43:58 Setlist: Polly Drain You School Smells Like Teen Spirit Floyd The Barber Lithium Love Buzz Sliver Molly's Lips About A Girl Rape Me Been A Son Negative Creep Blew My Rating: B+ The recording is crisp and clear (except for the digi-noise at the beginning present on most copies of the DAT version), but is still somewhat distant. The show itself is something very special, and I recommend this disc higher than just about any show out there. The very first live version of Rape Me is on this disc, with a thrash guitar solo and a structure that sounds NOTHING like any other version to come out of the band since that evening. Even 06/20/91's version is a little closer to the final version appearing on In Utero. This show is a landmark in the band's history. Both versions are excellent. Version 2 is the audience analog. The recording is not quite as clear, but Kurt's guitar sounds a little bit better. Rob Holmes once told me that this was his all-time favorite show. Highly recommended! |
