CALGARY INDIE ROCKIN' SCENE?!- why, Jon?
Here's a <revised as of Feb. 24> non-exhaustive point form list that I  think might help to explain why the Calgary Punkrock scene must change:

-Having fun- Ok, so some people are having fun at shows. Well, I know of one person who is now or at least thinks he is. But the majority of people that I know are pretty bored of the scene or at least disatisfied. I think there are good and solvable reasons for this.

-Girls actually playing in some of the Bands - let's face it... the punk scene is at least a little boycentric- womyn are ignored and mistreated all the time, and its about time to recognize that and do something about it. I can almost count the girls that I know that play or played in bands with my two hands.
-Better yet, more ALL girl bands (that seems to be a hard concept for some).

-keyboards+other instruments than the geetar should be more acceptable in bands, that way more people and more girls would get involved (I'm not trying to generalize, but I know lots more girls that play keyboards and trumpets and stuff than guitars)

-More variation from band to band would be cool.

-More Non-tuff guys, I think

-the possibility of making a non-boyclub sitch,

-More dancing, because interaction is almost key in enjoyment.

-Less moshing, and therefore less "fucking shit up"- what I mean by this is I don't appreciate being hurt when I'm watching a band, so if you're going to mosh go to the back where you don't have to see the band and you can kick the shit out of each other without kicking the shit out of the people who don't want to be beat up. (but moshing has been much better lately, I think.)  I am definately not saying this to be "PC", or because this fits in the "PC" bin. I'm saying it because in logical terms, moshing is stupid.

-People need to take a far less "I'm politically correct, so fuck you" approach. Its fuckin stupid.

-Its nice to have benefits everyonce in a while, especially when its a really worthwhile or urgent cause, but I think that aside from those things, paying the out of town bands is a greater priority. They fucking busted their ass and used up their gas to drive miles through the freezing cold to play for some snotty-ass kids, they deserve something back.

-Wrestling matches.

And if you're reading this and dislike it, don't feed me some shit about not being in a position to stand up to shit that goes down in the punk scene. Everything I mentioned about sexism is pretty much straight out of conversations I've had with girls that feel this way. All my goylfriends want shit to change - I'm just making a proposal...........

Since it's definately not my place to consider myself of any kind of authority on this subject,  IF ANY BODY (-BUT PARTICULARLY GIRLS-) WANTS TO SAY ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT THE SCENE AND THE TREATMENT OF GIRLS IN THE SCENE EMAIL ME: reddittj@cadvision.com SOMETHING> I'LL POST IT HERE AT THE LINK AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE IF YOU REQUEST IT. ALSO, IF YOU HAVE A VALID POINT OR CRITICISM OF THE SCENE< I'LL PLACE IT ON THIS PAGE- JUST TELL ME WHO YOU ARE OR REQUEST ANONYMITY AND I'LL POST YOUR NAME BESIDE IT. PLEASE WRITE ME!

Also, though, I know that many of the other things I said are kind of my own opinion, and not as important as the points about "the boy's club" or whatever but I think that many people at shows are sick of what's going on. I've been listening to my best friend alot, and most of these points stem from our conversations about the scene. They're basically her points, and I know for a fact that most of my friends and most of the people I know would agree with them.
