The Olympia

Dublin

22nd Of October 1997

Reported by Nadine Redmond, Dublin

The support act, 'The Supernaturals', were great at warming up the crowd. They commented on how loud we were: "We can't even hear ourselves sing!" And the lead singer got the crowd hyped up:"When Robbie was getting ready for tonight's show there wasn't enough room in his dressing room to do is press-ups, so he had to come into ours. Imagine Rob doing press-ups in just a pair of skimpy, tight, black shorts!"

As Rob walked on stage, wearing a pair of grey and navy trousers and a matching jacket, the crowd was screaming wildly, so loudly he couldn't start the song. He stood there taking in the crowd. "You lot are bonkers!" he shouted.

He opened with an energetic 'Let Me Entertain You', followed by 'Lazy Days'. Next Rob stopped to look at the crowd again. As the full lights were turned back on for him to see properly, he seemed to look at each of us individually. It was quite a small venue but we were making a lot of noise! Rob, grinning and chuffed said, "Tonight I believe we are in the best place in the world" (He is always saying how much he loves Dublin and is looking for a house here.) "And tonight I'm Irish" At this the crowd went wild, cheering madly. Next Rob sang 'Clean' followed by 'One of God's Better People' which he dedicated to his mum and our mums. The next songs were 'Kooks', 'Killing Me' and 'Teenage Millionaire'. All through these songs the crowd sang/shouted every word! "You know you ain't gonna have any voice left tomorrow?" Rob shouted. We all screamed louder. "You don't care do you?!!" he joked. "For some reason everyone assumes this next song is about Gary Barlow. Well it is - it's 'Ego a Go Go.' " Rob followed 'Ego A Go Go' with 'Angels', 'South Of The Border' and 'Life Thru A lens' before leaving the stage.

As the crowd chanted "Robbie!, Robbie!, Robbie!, Robbie!" He returned, without his jacket, in the middle of putting on his 'So sue me - Everyone else does' T-shirt, to sing his now famous thrash version of 'Back For Good'. Next he tried to sing 'Old Before I Die' but ended up watching, grinning as the crowd sang the whole song, while he sang only the chorus. Rob followed this by singing two cover versions, which I'm not sure the names of.

Before leaving the stage Rob shouted, "This ain't no skit you've been the best crowd EVER!!"
