I have to say that until about 7 years ago the only Ides song I was familiar with was "Vehicle" That's because I'm from the West Coast and their pre-Vehicle songs hit the charts before I was old enough to enjoy them. But a friend in Detroit turned me on t "You Wouldn't Listen" and I was hooked. Couldn't believe it was the same band, they sound so different. I love their early stuff and I'm so glad that Sundazed released it on CD, they did a great job. I come out to Chicago often and hope to see them in c ncert someday.

I saw these guys whenever they played North/South Carolina from '71-'73. Absolutely killer. "Vehicle" pretty much defines what the radio SHOULD, but rarely does, sound like. On top of everything else, all of the band members were real human beings. Peterik and I "clashed" in that he wore the infamous black-and-white "bebops" (saddle oxford shoes), which were STILL in fashion in early-seventies small-town North Carolina, eg, m i. His take: "You stole my shoes!" I knew that he had done a thing fronting his own band under his own name (I could say eponymous, but I'm not that bright) and did a stretch with Survivor, hitting the charts again. The real Ides of March back together again? Outstanding. Just come within 200 miles of anywhere I might happen to be. My wife of 25 years, who was with me when I saw 'em back then, will be with me. I live in Sanford, Michigan near Midland, Michigan. I am 34 years old. I do have the albums "Vehicle" and "Common Bond". The songs "Factory Band" and "Time For Thinking" are my favorites. I also have Joe Lynn Turner's version of "Vehicle" from his CD "Und rcover". He did a great job doing the remake. Another one of my favorite song is "One Fine Morning" by Lighthouse. Great website. The Ides of March were part of my formative years. Bands like Chicago, Chase, BST were also some of my fav's. The Cryan Shames too. But none were like the Ides. I knew they were back, but hadn't done too much to find them. I tried to f nd where they were playing in 1998, and am surprised I didn't find this website then. But now I found you and some good info on the Ides. I am seeing them Sunday Night, 9/5/99 in Hanover Park, IL. Looking forward to it very much.

Some weeks ago, I found this site. Previously, my only knowledge of the Ides of March was that I own their second LP, "Common Bond". I checked out the discography, looked around on Internet CD shops to see if anyone on this side of the Atlantic Ocean (I l ve in Sweden, Europe) would have any of the latest CDs. The older LPs I thought I would never find. Then today, on the lunch, I walked into my local record store and searched through the second-hand LPs. Voila! I didn't find one LP, not two LP but all three LP not in my collection since before: Vehicle, World Woven and Midnight Oil (what is the order of those last two, actually?). All three in what looks like excellent shape for slightly less than $25 (190 SEK, actually). Am I lucky or what? Now, all I have to do is go home and listen..

I saw the Ides back in the spring of '70 at Lock Haven State College, Lock Haven, Pa. The opening act was The Five Stairsteps (of Ohh Child fame). The Ides blew my socks off and I've loved their music ever since. Would love to find any of their new/old music in CD...but if not I still have their first 3 albums in good condition. One of my favorite all-time bands. Glad to see them back and when are they playing the east coast (particularily VA BEACH)??? Would love to see them all again!!!! Thanks fo the web site!

I am dismayed that Chicago oldies radio does not give the Ides' the airtime they deserve. I am truly proud to own all 4 original LPs and all but 3 of the original 45's. dear ides, just wanted to tell you how much of a fan i am of the band. i have every single record that the ides ever released,including all of the parrot, warner bros, kapp and rca recordings! i even own a copy of the hideously rare shondells 45', "like it or lump it" on the epitome label. (for those fans who may not know, the ides of march were originally known as "the shondells unlimited" before they were known as the ides.) i also have several video film clips of ides tv appearances from 1970. they are absolutely cool! i really love your single, "nobody loves me!" on the kapp label from 1969. truly a wonderfully sad, yet beautiful song. of course, "you wouldn't listen" "roller coaster" "sha-la-la-lee" and "tye-dye princess" are always fighting each other for turntable space in my house! anyways, i'm really thrilled that the original ides are back together and kicking major butt around the chicago area. good luck in the future, and keep on rockin!. jerry schollenberger

People, if you missed the IDES show on Saturday night in LaGrange, you missed a GREAT show! The fans were so glad to see the band...So many fans were there that the carnival area was shut down.. no one could move! Besides, I think everyone who had ever lo ed the IDES music showed up. And they were not disappointed! the crowd, though they were as familiar with the songs as any crowd I've seen , sang along and REACTED! The mood was "electric" to say the least! I'm so glad I went! Ive never seen fans that w re so into a concert. The band was energized, too. I think it helps to have everyone enjoying themselves and responding..You could also tell just how hard the IDES work up there on the stage. It was hot and humid, and you could see the sweat pouring off t e band members, especially Jim. Great show and I'm so glad you got to play for an hour and forty five minutes, instead of the hour ONLY that you were supposed to play. You need to book some more early fall festival dates!

The Ides and 38 Special show last night in LaGrange was electrifying. When members of both groups got together and performed "Vehicle, Deja Yoodoo and Hold On Loosely" the crowd went wild. By the end of the evening, the crowd was begging for more. Lets hope they team up again and do more shows together in 99'. Wouldn't that be awesome. What do the fans say. Great show saturday at Oakbrook Terrace! People, the village of La Grange has made a BIG BOO-BOO! The Ides are playing at 7 PM on the 8th of Aug. However, they are only supposed to play for ONE HOUR ONLY!! also, The village has chosen not to advertise th IDES appearance as much as the band that they are opening for, .38 Special. Don't they realize that the IDES can and will draw huge crowds?, especially that close to their Berwyn Roots? Remember, LaGrange, the IDES had a Huge crowd at Summerfaire (29000 !) I'm glad the band is still around. An interesting story. In the early 70's WCMF, a local station used to play tie dye princess for me (back in high school), eventually no one would because the song at 11 min + was too long for air play! Anyway, I searche for 25 years for Common Bond and last year at an album collector's show in Rochester, the store owner said he had a copy at his home office. I sent him a check for $25 and it arrived. Guess what - It was WCMF's studio copy from 1971. The same exact rec rd they played for me over 25 years ago. Life is so cool sometimes!

Last time I wrote you I told you that I had gotten a beautiful copy of "World Woven". Thanks to the Internet, I have found a still-sealed copy of "Midnight Oil". If you go to www.californiaalbums.com you will find the site. They have you bid on the albums with a minumum of $15 (which almost always wins). The Ides are under the Groups catagory in a section called "One Hit Wonders". A highly unfair catagory, but what do they know. I should be receiving the album in another week or so and I'll let you know a out the quality, service, etc.

I received my copies of "Ideology" and "Age Before Beauty" yesterday. I was so impressed by how good the Ides sound. The re-recordings of their old songs are faithful to the originals with a crisper, cleaner sound. I was blown away by "Roller Coaster", wh ch I have on an old scratchy 45. I especially love "Rebel Girl", "I'd Love Her Anyway" and "Spirit of Chicago" from Ideology and "Friendly Stranger (Vehicle Overture)" from Age Before Beauty. Actually, there ain't a bad tune on either of them. I hope we c n look forward to more releases in the future. Thanks for this site. I never would have guessed the Ides were back together.

Jim Peterik occasionally shows up on Steve Dahl's show on WCKG 105.9 in Chicago and is always entertaining. I learned yesterday that Jim wrote a song for the upcoming Brian Wilson album. Should be a good one. I had the pleasure of meeting Chuck Soumar t Carriage Greens Golf Course in Darien, IL. What a class act he is!

Kate.. Great page on the Ides. I've known and been a part of the Chicago music scene for over 30 years. Ides were one of the best in the area of locals that went national! I remember seeing them when there were the old "Battle of the Bands" contests around here. .in fact I think our group at the time played against them! :) Some of the guys live not too far from me, I usually make all their appearances and get to chat with them. Keep up the good work!
