Gough Whitlam
"And well might we say 'may God save the Queen because nothing will save the governor general'" Gough Whitlam - November 11 1975 on Parliament House steps.

"I remember when Gough was elected into office, I was at school and remember everybody being excited. It made me feel happy and I guess that had a positive connotation for me. For me, the name Gough refers to the greater icon of Australia's greater political party. It makes me feel at home, and I'm glad to associate that with my music." Tim Freedman of The Whitlams.
Gough Whitlam was Prime Minister of Australia from 1972 to 1975. Charismatic and jovial, Gough has set the standard for all Aussie PMs. He brought in free education and increased welfare, part of his dream for a more equitable Australia.
November 11, was Armistice Day, a bushranger was slaughtered and Gough was betrayed. November 11, he wouldn't survive the Governor General in '75.
But hey, come over for dinner with me. We'll play chess and drink Claret. Walk slowly down my little street, can you bring Margaret?
November 11 - a big day for all of us. November 11, Ned Kelly died, ah shame Fraser shame and we all cried, for you Gough, you Gough, you Gough, Edward Gough Whitlam.
