Deathpoem's Web of Tangled Thoughts - Vizcaya Renaissance Festival 1998

16th Annual Vizcaya Italian Renaissance Festival

This year's RenFest went over pretty well. As it was my second festival (working with the RHS and Chessmasters) I didn't have much to compare it to. However, in contrast with last years, I think this year Fest moved much more smoothly and was a little less shoddily prepared than 1997.

For instance, the Living ChessGame was not anywhere as long as in 1997 due to the fact that there were 6 fights as opposed to 14. In addition to that, the script was much wittier with lines worth hearing...lines that actually aided in the comprehension of the game. In 1997, the lines seemed to serve as a filler between the clinking of rapiers.

*A special tribute to two special people:
-Dan Balsera
and
-Paul
These two people contributed so much to the board this year, both with hardships befalling them mid-Fest. Dan lost his grandfather, with whom he was especially close to, and Paul pulled his groin muscle in the middle of the game on Friday.

Both of them continued to perform throughout the festival and did a most excellent job. My prayers are with you Dan.
