Hey, this is my curling page...

Curling has to be one of my biggest loves of all time...well, so far. It is this really cool sport, that was founded in Scotland, and is now played all over the world. I have been curling since I was eight years old, and I thnk it's the greatest thing I could've ever joined. I used to curl with Lucy O'Byrne and Maura McCue from New Jersey and Meghan Porter-Mahoney from Massachusetts. We starting playing with toghether last season. We barely knew each other, and now we are really close. I am so glad I got to know them. We don't curl as a team anymore though. Maura went into the Air Force in November, and Lucy went off to TUFTS. Lucy now curls with Pam Montbach of Wayland, MA, Meghan Porter-Mahoney of Beverly, MA, and Carin Goodall of Norfolk, CT. (Their team just won the region's playdowns and they are going to the Nationals out in Wisconsin. WOOHOO!!! Good for them. I wish I could go and cheer them on, but I'd have to miss school, darn it.) It is hard trying to keep a team together. I now curl with Eric Dehm and John DeMaio of Stamford, CT and Breddy Alfaro from Greenwich.

1997-98 Season:

December 5 - 7: Darien, CT: We played at our home bonspiel (Nutmeg) ... We won the Third event against Philly.

Jan 9 - 12: Wayland, Mass: Eric, John, and Breddy went to Broomstones to compete in that competition, I had plans so I couldn't make it... unfortunatley. That bonspiel is always the coolest.

Jan 16 - 18: Norfolk, CT: Eric, John, and I curled. We got Andy Kachuck from Pembroke, Mass to be the substitute of our team for the weekend.

Jan 30 - Feb1: Utica, New York: Eric, John, Breddy, and I lost the fifth event of six. It was pretty sad, but you should've seen the games! The ones we lost, we lost by one. The one we won, we won by 15...

Feb 20 - 22: Planfield, NJ: This bonspiel was different. I skipped a team of three 11 year olds. The guys played as a three man team in a different division. My team lost the first event. I was really proud of them. Eric, John, and Breddy got bounced from a round robin, but they did such a good job.

March 6 - 8: Schenectady, NY: This is always a cool 'spiel b/c a whole lot of Canadian teams come down too. This weekend only two did. We beat our first team, Cape Cod. They're a team of four girls who would be really good if they'd listen to each other for once. We beat Philly, Schenectady, Broomstones and Rochester. Up until then, we were one of four remaining teams in the first event. (There were 15 teams.) We went up against a Canadian team from god-knows-where, I forget, and we lost by one. So, we went from the semi's of the first to the fifth. My skip Eric was so pissed off, as were we all, that we kinda just threw it away and lost to a team from Utica, NY. We settled for runners-up. That was a cool, cool weekend.

March 20 - 22: Petersham, MA - OCA/GNCC: Ontario has always played us in an annual international junior bonspiel. That's what OCA/GNCC is. Ontario Curling Association vs. Grand National Curling Club (which is our region: CT, MA, VT, NH, PA, NY,and NJ.) Well, I got a call two nights before telling me that I was allowed to go b/c I had already been there twice, which is what the maximum is. Breddy, John, and Eric went b/c they had never been there. I was pretty steamed but I figured that since a lot of people would be going to college, military, whatever, that I'd probably get to go next year, so I didn't worry about it TOOO much. The one in 1997 kicked ass. It was in Welland, Ontario. We went to the falls (Niagra) and to a movie theater, it kicked ass.

July 18 - 20: Cape Cod, MA: This is where our Curling Camp is during the summer. We get there Saturday morning and leave Monday afternoon at like 2. We do drills and work on technique and it's just a lot of fun. We stay at the Massachusetts Maritime Military Base. It's pretty cool. Last year I roomed w/ Lucy and Maura, but this year I got a room to myself b/c the girl I was supposed to room with was new and only knew one person, so she stayed with her. We usually have dances on Saturday nights at spiels, but here we went to Adventure Isle, which everyone calls "Happy-Fun-Land." There are Go-Carts, bumper boats, mini golf, a driving range, video game area, food, and a huge freakin' slide that no one's ever watching so we go down it for free... pretty sneaky huh? J/k... it's fun though. That was a good weekend.

August 7 - 10: Guelph, Ontario: This was one of the coolest experience of my life I'd have to say. 32 junior curlers from across the country were selected to attend an elite high performance curling camp. I got to go! It was cool. I went with three curlers from the GNCC, Pam Montbach, Bryan Fink, and Dan Brennan. This camp was focused on basic olympic training for the 2002/2006 Winter Olympics. It was pretty fucking awesome! I met a whole lot of pretty cool people. To name a few: Dan Viney, Joel Dietz, Mark Lazar, Jeremy Siegel, Marcus and Jonathan Macdonald, Becky Dobie, Jodi Armstrong, Kevin Deeren, and Nicole Annis. She has a hottie brother named Nate who was there too. But I didn't really talk to him. I had a great time at the camp, but trying to get home was a catastrophe. If you want to know what happened, e-mail me and ask. I just don't have the strength to write it all out now.

1998-99 Season:

The first three bonspiels, Petersham, MA; Philadelphia, PA; and Plainfield, NJ were cancelled due to the fact that not enough teams showed up. Last year, most of the curlers were seniors in high school, if not older. So a lot of people are now aways at school and not curling. The program is a lot smaller now.

November 27 - 29: GNCC Jr. Championships USCA Play-downs in Schenectady, NY: My new girl's team consists of three girls from Ardsley, New York. My vice, Liz Chebetar, my second, Kendra LaBrosse, and my lead Catherine Chebetar are the greatest. I have so much fun with them. Catherine hurt her ankle two weeks before the Playdowns and didn't get to practice at all so she wasn't able to play the entire games. She'd throw her first stone and then go inside and watch the rest. We played three games. Our first game was against my friend Larissa's team from Philly. She had a very young team, kinda like mine, and we won. Not by a landslide or anything, it was a good game. The next two games were against the Massachusetts girls. Lucy O'Byrne, Pam Montbach, Meghan Porter-Mahoney, and Carin Goodall. We had some pretty good games. We were tied with them at the fifth end in both the games, but in the end we ended up losing. Oh well. For a team that had only been curling together for about a month, and also curling three, with two sick team members, we did pretty damn good!!

January 22 - 24: Broomstones; Wayland, MA: During this bonspiel, the team consisted of me skipping, Kendra vicing, John DeMaio as second, and Lauren Dunne from Broomstones subbing as a lead. We had so much fun, and did SO well this weekend. Well, our first game was against the Girls National's team, Lucy, Pam, Meg, and Carin. And believe it or not, we beat them. It was the single most exciting moment of my life. Well, one of them. The first end kind of sucked, we gave them two. But during the second end, we got six, and then the game just turned around from then on. We won 14-11 or 14-10. I really can't remember. Our second game was against the Boys National team. They beat the snot out of us. It was okay though. If we'd beaten them, there would've been something terribly wrong w/ them. We then played Petersham. My friend Adam skipped so it was fun talking to him during the game. We lost by three or two I believe. I can't remember. Then on Sunday morning, we played them for the third event finals, and lost again. Lauren had to work that morning, so we curled three. It was a good weekend.

January 29 - 31: Utica, New York: This was such a good weekend. The team this weekend was me, Kendra, and John. Friday night we played my friend Jeff's team. Jeff is from Philly. We lost by three I think. Something like that. But that was good. If you're in a draw w/ a lot of teams, and you don't think you can beat all of them, it's better to lose the first one. The next morning at 8 AM, we curled against a Broomstones team. We won by three. We were down by one, and it came down to the last shot. I had the hammer (translation: I had the last shot) and i had three in the house but Gavin (the Broomstones skip) had one. I knocked his out and sat four. Sunday morning, we were in the Second Event finals. We played a very good game against the only Canadian team who went. We lost 7-6. We were very happy with how well we curled. And it was a lot of fun.

February 5 - 7: Plainfield, New Jersey: This weekend was so incredibly cool! I had a blast. John had to work and Kendra was going skiing with her school, so I had to get onto another team. So I curled with my friend Adam Dodge and one of his random friend, Mike Medina. He isn't a curler, but Adam taught him how to play the weekend before so he could go with him. We had a lot of fun. We played four games on Saturday, won three of them, and then lost on Sunday morning. I don't even remember what event we were in. I think we were in the third. So we were third event runners up. For the past three years, that's all I've come in at Plainfield. Third event runners up three years in a row. It kind of sucks, but it's kind of cool. We had a great time though.

February 19 - 21: Petersham, MA: This was a good bonspiel. I curled with Kendra and LeeAnn Barnes from Petersham. John called on Thursday and said he couldn't go. I hope he can come to Sch'tdy. On Friday night, we played against Cape Cod and lost 10-5, it was just a really bad game. I don't know why we were in such a bad slump. But then we curled at 10:45 the next morning and beat Philadelphia III 14-1. It was a good game. For us atleast. We curled at 8 that night also. We lost to Philadelphia I by a few points, I don't remember what the actual score was, but I know it was a really close game. A REALLY close game. Then Sunday morning, we played Cape Cod again and beat them 15-0. So we were happy about that.

March 5 - 7: Schenectady, NY: This was a really good weekend. Our first game, we had Doug Krailo from Nashua sub on our team against Ashley Lawreck, who was skipping Petersham. We had to have an extra end b/c it was tied. It was a REALLY close and good game. Jeff Harris from Philly subbed with us twice. I'm not exactly sure who it was against though. My friend Liz Williams from Utica subbed on our team and we beat a Sch'tdy team 22-1. It was a pretty sad game to watch I heard. (It was a pointspiel which means to get into the finals you have to get the most points possible in a game and not stop early.) We got into the finals of course. We beat a Philadelphia team and won the 3rd event: The Munro Medal. It was pretty exciting.

March 19 - 21: Golden Handle: Ardsley, NY: Every year for as long as I can remember ( and long before that), Nutmeg has been holding the Golden Handle. This is an open international tournament. This means anyone can send a team. Kendra and I put a team in with our fathers. Our team name was "Dads and Dolls". The theme of the weekend was "Nutmeg off broadway" b/c Nutmeg is gone and currently at Ardsley, so our team name fit, and everyone thought it was cute. B/c you know, that's what we were going for. Cute... anyway, I skipped and we had a blast. We were the runners up of the "Rat Race" trophy. Which basically means the fourth event. It was a fun weekend.

March 26 - 28: Toronto, Ontario: This weekend was fun. I met a lot of really cool Canadians, and the girl who I was staying with was SOO nice. She reminded me of Maura, who by the way is ENGAGED! YAY! I'm so happy for her. Anyway, I curled w/ Aliza Paul, who will be on my competitive curling team for National Playdowns, and also Ted Graves. We had a weird sub named Tim Jones, I think. He is Canadian and Aliza and I were convinced that he was some sort of reincarnated devil. He was just incredibly strange. Oh well. It was a very good weekend, but I don't think I will ever travel 14 in a van EVER again!
