Pvt. Mike Landa, now stationed in Korea. We spent many passes together...sometimes in Burger King (if we were lucky).
This is probably my best friend from Benning. We were together from day one in reception and ended up in the same platoon. PV2 Jonathan Rowlett and I were there for each other during the toughest times. He continued on to become Airborne and is now in the 82nd.
How do you like the BCG glasses?
Pvt. Jacob VanDyke was my PT buddy. Every night (well, not exactly every night) we would do pushups and situps to prepare for the final PT test. Thankfully, we both passed but couldn't have done it without one another. I heard that he is now stationed in Ft. Drum, New York.
I'm so happy for PV2. Josh Thompson and his newly-wed wife, Ange. During training, Thompson's orders said he was stationed in Korea. However, in Airborne school he luckily had them changed to the 82nd, which is stationed in North Carolina. I pray that their lives together are happy forever.
This is one of my drill sergants, DS Richard Hamm. We had 2 active duty drill sgts that were there the entire 13 weeks, DS Hamm and DS Clark, plus we had a total of 5 reserve drill sgts that came and went every 2 weeks.
The thing about DS Hamm is he was a fair DS. I remember when he got so mad at us that he didn't have anything to do with us for awhile but his job wasn't to be nice.
Afterall, this man was training us to kill. I will always remember his sayings that he used to degrade us. He was creative in that way.
Don't get me wrong, when our platoon was up in the barracks with this guy, he was a different person. During mail call he would joke around and create some of the funniest names while he smoked his pipe. We just had to watch out for those flying envelopes coming at us!
He deseved it when he got the 'DS of the Cycle' award. However, I don't think DS Hamm is training privates anymore. I believe he returned to his old unit, 82nd Airborne, and became a platoon sergant. I wonder if any of my comrads that went to the 82nd are under this man again.
Well, this is the last picture that was taken in Ft. Benning. I was going home to continue my lifeand they were going to various places to continue theirs. The Pvt. on the right of me is a Californian by the name of Larry Stone, a really cool guy. I'm not sure what happened to him but I hope I find him again someday. Maybe we'll find Burger King this time.(inside joke)
