Transcript of Adrian Melott's presentation at the press conference held 3/29 in Lawrence Kansas.

We seek honesty, completeness, and accuracy in the teaching of all subjects in our public schools in place of the inaccurate, faddish, non-Bible-based ideas that are currently being fed to our children."

FLAT (Families Learning Accurate Theories) is holding this press conference to outline FLAT's platform and answer questions from the press and public. There will be a public rally and demonstration of Biblical mathematics at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 3.

The creation of FLAT follows that of POSH, or Parents for Objective Science and History. POSH was recently founded in Lawrence to promote the teaching of Biblical creationism in the public schools. However POSH does not go far enough in promoting traditional theories in the classroom.

We wish to stress that we are a secular organization. We respect good science and good scholarship, and have confidence that when properly done the results will always agree with the Bible. Thus, we are interested in promoting good standards.

The Round Earth Theory is being taught in Lawrence, contrary to the Biblical position (Revelation 7:1) that the Earth has four corners.

Of course, having four corners does not mean the Earth is a square or a rectangle. It could also be a tetrahedron, which is a solid figure with four equilateral triangles as its sides, and four vertices or corners. Our group is divided on the issue of which shape the Earth has. In our open search for truth, we agree that both points of view are valid and careful experimentation will determine the outcome.

You might ask about all the astronauts who have gone "out into space" and why they haven't reported back about the true shape of the Earth. Or about how all those space satellites go "around the Earth". Ask yourself: have you ever SEEN a satellite? Sure, they told you those moving lights were satellites, right back to the atheistic Sputnik. Ask yourself: if young Americans did go out into space, and reported back the truth, what would happen to them at the hands of the scientific establishment, who would look like fools? We need unbiased observers sent into space--if NASA can really send anyone into space!

Scripture (I Kings 7:23) clearly declares that the value of pi (the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter) is 3, not the secular humanist value of 3.14 taught in every school in Lawrence. FLAT supports the teaching of the Biblical value on an equal footing with the secular value.

So pi is 3. How does this fit in with modern science? Very well, it turns out. In General Relativity, Einstein (who, like FLAT members, was a scientific maverick) showed there is curved space. Gravity from bodies like the Earth is really curved space, described by something called the Schwarzschild metric. In this curved space, the ratio of the circumference-- the length of a circle drawn around an object--to its diameter-- the distance to travel across one side of a circle around the body to the other--is always LESS than pi! And we on the Earth live in just such a metric space. This shows that quality science, done right, will lead to conclusions in agreement with Scripture, in this case the wisdom of Einstein and Solomon in complete agreement.

Are these just abstract ideas about pi? Absolutely not. They have economic implications. Think, for example, of all the savings on ball bearings, tires, anything else that rolls.

Remember that at the Tower of Babel, God punished the human race ( Genesis 11:6-9 ) for its pride by creating many languages so that peoples could never cooperate in building such a structure again. FLAT believes that the study of foreign languages is therefore unBiblical, and seeks the removal of language courses from the curriculum at all levels.

In bringing up the Tower of Babel, we are anxious to show that adherence to truth has implications not only for natural science, but also social studies. In this case, we show not that something should be taught differently, but that it should not be taught at all. Indeed, one can see here that if Americans could not speak with any foreigners, we would be much less likely to get into wars, have our jobs taken away by underpaid competition, or waste paper with instructions printed in some other languages on things we buy.

FLAT contends that other curricular revisions will also be necessary in order to have a fair and equal presentation of all ideas in tax-supported public schools. It plans to support candidates for the Lawrence Board of Education who endorse FLAT's positions. FLAT is highly critical of POSH, who choose to examine the faults only of evolutionary theory and do not extend their critique to other areas. We believe they too should be asked their opinion on the three points we specifically raise today: Pi, Foreign Languages, and the Four-cornered Earth.

This Saturday, April 3, FLAT we will hold a public gathering in South Park, Lawrence, to demonstrate scientifically the Biblical value of pi.

Everyone is invited to meet there and join the circle at 2 p.m.. In case of rain, we will use the gazebo.
