Will Backstreet Mania Take You By Storm?
May 1997 Issue

They're screaming in Europe. They're screaming in Canada. In every corner of the world, they're screaming loud and long for Kevin Richardson, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, A.J. McLean and Nick Carter-collectively known as the Backstreet Boys. Now the boys are heading to the US-and they want you to join the screaming!

Give 'em Something To Shout About!

Just one look at the Backstreet Boys will tell you the obvious-they're absolutely adorable. But they also have the talent to back it up. Their self-titled debut album has been skyrocketing to the top of every chart in the world-but here in the US, not many people have heard the group's dynamic R&B sound. That's something the boys are looking to change, and fast. "We're definitely ready for success at home," says 23-year-old Howie, who hails from Florida. "We're ready for success at home."

That's a feeling Kevin, who at 24 is the eldest Boy in the band, totally agrees with. "We want our teachers, friends and family to see what we've done with our lives," he says.

Worldwide Fame & Acclaim!

Of course, once the Backstreet Boys hit it big in the US, they're going to have to face more of the fan-atic attention they get throughout the world. And we can tell you, that attention can get pretty wild. "We've done signings at record stores where there've been over 3,000 people," tells 22-year-old Brian. "One time in Germany, there was a riot, I'm telling you! We signed CDs for five minutes-we had a chance to sign maybe 10 autographs-and the girls busted through the barriers and we had to leave. But we know its only because our fans want to get closer to us, and we really do love them."

Just A Bunch of Regular Guys!

The groups' two youngest members, A.J. who's 19, and Nick, who's 17, sometimes get totally overwhelmed by the love and affection they get from fans-but they definitely are into it, big time. "I keep thinking, I'm just out of high school, I'm just a regular guy," says A.J. "There was no one crying over me in high school, and now, when I look out at an audience, I see girls just crying like crazy."

You can bet these five "regular" dudes are ready to reach phenomenal levels of success in the US-and we can bet you're going to be waiting for the day they pull up into your town!
